I just realized it's been 30 years since Shane Matthews was our QB

It was 30 years ago that UGA came into the WLOCP thinking of a national title or at least SEC East.
They were 7-1, with that 1 loss just by 3 points vs UT.
Now UGA was on a 6 game win streak with many blowouts.
Garrison Hearst was running wild. in fact, he would finish 3rd in the Heisman that year.

Meanwhile the Gators stumbled in- losing badly to UT and Miss State, and barely beating Louisville the week prior.
Yet somehow Shane and the Gators prevailed 26-24. I remember us making a first down by a few inches to seal the deal.

UGA would win out and compile a 10-2 record, while we closed our regular season with losses to FSU and Bama in the inaugural SECCG and finished 8-4.
Most would say UGA had the better season, but I disagree.

Because that UF-UGA game would prove pivotal between the schools.
It was our 3rd win in a row in a streak that would get to 7 games.
We firmly established ourselves as the superior team, and that would pay dividends for 10+ years.

Sigh. What good memories. In many ways I wish it was 1992 again.
