While there have always been entertainers that crossed that line it has never been more pervasive than it is today because of social media. Social media is a vehicle for every lazy, convenient and reactionary "protest" or posturing on whatever issue. I can make a statement that will get shared a million times over while never having to put down my sparkling water or get up from my pool deck...

I think that another difference is that Comedians and musicians in Carson’s day considered themselves first and foremost as entertainers. Today those professions consider themselves artists. There is a big difference.

Or people with willful "amnesia" about the stolen elections.

    @Rasmussen_Poll
How likely is it that cheating affected the outcome of the 2020 presidential election?

    Likely / Not likely:

    All: 55% / 40%
    Rep: 75% / 20%
    Dem: 35% / 61%
    Ind: 53% / 40%
    White: 52% / 42%
    Black: 55% / 40%
    Hisp: 62% / 35%
    18-39: 55% / 30%
    65+: 49% / 45%

The Pubs and Latino population seem to agree on the truth.

The country s deeply divided. I have a funny feeling that both sides are engineering the divide along with the media, are laughing with each other all the way to the bank.

it is as if Randolph and Mortimer Duke made a one dollar bet that they could turn the country against itself, and one bet that the ones labeled liberals would win and the other bet the ones labeled conservative would win.

The funny reality is despite the endless allegations on both sides, nothing really happens to the MAJOR players.

The only people that suffer are the general populace. “The first rule of politics is self preservation.” If you can keep a country divided along party lines, you will have career longevity.

A lot of those people voted in the poll that way because the election was closer than it should have been. You have countless incidents of voter suppression, voter roll purging, and tactics such as preventing people who owed fines and fees to the government from voting even though they pay federal taxes.

the very thing that repulsed the founding fathers has become an effective weapon of the GOP who for the large part, cannot prevail with their dwindling voting numbers in this country without cheating.

You have to give Trump credit. The only mechanism that keeps the GOP viable as a major party in this country- cheating- is their Alamo battle cry against the Dems.

The strategy is that if you accuse your opponent of cheating, despite the paucity of proof, no one is going to pay attention their pillaging of the system.

Musicians, the good ones that is, are indeed artists. There is no crime in the arts entertaining people either. Some actors are artists too when well-versed in theatre arts. Many of the movie stars and popular musicians, which are the people the general public sees more often, are entertainers. I'm not necessarily disagreeing with you; just asserting some nuance.
