But its crucial time. My daughters dance all fall and winter. My son plays sports. They need me at those events.

Who lifts his head after a loss and chest bumps after a win? Dad should.

Its a really hard life, not terrible different than military in the way time works.

My dad never missed a single basketball game in my 4 years of HS. Traveled all over Florida watching me play.

I now do it for my 2 dancers and 12 year old hoops lover

NFL kids miss out on that.

Nah. I think if he were playing in Miami it would be a different story. But he's in TB and she thinks TB is beneath her and wants to live in Miami so she can live the celebrity life. She's more pissed he stayed in TB than the fact he's still playing.

Agree but the shelf life of (most) nfl players is under a decade, some just over, and there are a few that push 2 decades. But the life they can build for them and their family in that span amd not have to work anymore. That time put in is still a 3rd of what most family dads will have to work to continue to support their family which is well into their 60's now. The sacrifice for a greater tomorrow is rarely too large a task nor too great a cost to at least attempt.

 

None of us know the real situation. Any family falling apart is sad. It maybe be Tom’s fault or it may be Giselle’s. It is probably a little if both. Who knows.

I don’t envy either of them. All the money they have and not a happy marriage. I’ll take my partner and best friend for the last 40 plus years. She walks beside me through thick and thin. Sometimes pushing me up the steep slopes and holding me back going down the other side. A happy home is worth far more than millions…

 

Not the HS years, The vast majority of players are out of the league by the time their kids start HS.

Enter the league at 24, if you're lucky, you retire at 34. Your kids will be under 16 or younger if you had your first at 18. 10 or younger if you waited until after 24.

Brady is 45 and has a 15,12 and 9 yr old. He has had an exceptionally long career. Most would have been out of the league 10 years earlier when the kids were 5,2 and not born yet.

 

Like you we were at almost every event where our children participated. We very much enjoyed doing that. However, I think this idea of observing children’s activities as one of the highest family priorities is a relatively new phenomenon. Even in American history it’s only been for a generation or two, but I think in most of the world even today this is not even a consideration.

 

Giselle is his second wife, so this should have been a non issue. But who plays until 45 and beyond? I kind of agree with Giselle that he should hang up his cleats, at any moment he could have a devastating injury and that is more likely the older he gets. What's the point? Just to win another ring?

I do agree he should have retired after the Superbowl.

 

Do marriages like these ever work out? Ultra rich celebs who are constantly having their ego stroked and their bags carried by helpers? He’s obviously going to retire in a year or two. Can she say it’s really worth breaking up a family because he wants one or two more years of football? I can understand her frustration, but her problem will literally be solved by nature in a year or two. It’s sort of like…you’ve come this far with the man. Can’t do it one or two more years?

This of course assumes that the main issue in their marriage is his career. There’s always more to the story. Things that happened behind closed doors and such.

 

As has been alluded too - Who knows the real situation?
They are both fantastically successful at their craft.

Publicly Giselle seems to say things that make one sympathetic to her ............ Tom's previous success, his age, fear of injury.

But that just may be for public consumption. People at their success level dissiminate two sets of information: private and for public cosumption.

My opinion, which counts for nothing, suggests Tom may be showing a vulnerability.............

He can't let go of childish things, he can't let go of being a young man, he can't let go of the limelight.

He won't be the first. Some former NFL heros literally killed themselves and destroyed their bodies, health and future to "stay in it".

Myself, looking up from a position of small agency, in this game of life, can easily say he is a complete idiot........he with 7 rings, literally every record, and unlimited opportunities to capatalize on his fame ........... why risk it?

But then, it's not my life, wife, family or future.

Tom may very well lust to be carried off the field of battle on his shield, methinks, that very well may be the outcome for him, if so.........well, so be it....... (Think Muhammad Ali)

 

If you truly love someone, is them playing one or two more years of pro football really going to be a dealbreaker? Honestly, his career up to this point doesn't matter. At this point, it's purely a decision about the future, is it not? She can't get that time she's already spent with him back, so what he's done up until now doesn't really factor into this equation, if we're looking at it rationally. If this is about his football career, he's got one or two years left tops. That doesn't sound like a valid reason to break up a family to me. So, as you mentioned, there's probably more to this than we'll ever know. Football seems like a convenient scapegoat. I can't imagine marrying a pro football player and leaving him because he has one or two years left to play. That doesn't really add up, but I know couples divorce for trivial reasons sometimes.

 

Maybe they had an agreement this past offseason that he would retire. So, he retired, felt regret and wanted to back out of retirement. Now some might say Tom reneged on an agreement with his wife in this case or that Tom is being stupid playing football this late into his life. However, at the crux of the matter, if this is the case, you'd have one party trying to control what the other does and that's rarely a healthy situation. Tom may be an idiot for playing this long, but he should be able to make that decision for himself. It's not like he became a football player after they got hitched. She married Tom Brady: HOF QB and perhaps the most competitive athlete to ever take the gridiron. None of this should be a great surprise to her.

You don't appear to put any stock in a marriage being broken up and they having underage children, not out of H.S.

I'm not taking sides and frankly could care less, but the sake of the children should have some bearing on any decision to divorce, at least IMO.

Also Gisele could buy and sell Tom when your talking about financial success and in some parts / sectors of the world that would include the "FAME" issue as well, as in the modeling and fashion world.

Frankly the rich and famous should walk a mile in the common man or womans shoes every once in awhile in my opinion, to get a reminder about REAL-LIFE.

If Tom wants to keep playing football, thats fine with me, but father time catches up to everybody, in every profession, sooner or later.

It will catch up to Brady too, my non-football trained eyes seem to reveal a guy thats lost a gear so far this season, but that could be mental and it could be related to his marriage going down the shitter. Him playing on just may be his "coping mechanism".

But at the end of the day, I could care less. I'm not a therapist.........lol

 

Brady being the selfish a-hole he's always been, nothing new here.

 

Well, it's unrealistic for most 45 year olds to just stop working altogether. Plenty of 45 year old dads out there who have to work for a living and many, unfortunately, that have to miss ball games and such due to work demands. Add to this Brady gets 6 or 7 months off a year. Add to this he's only going to be playing football another year or two. I'm not saying it isn't challenging for her, but I think many of us who've been married for a long time know, marriage will have it's challenges. Do you break it up over something that will resolve itself in a year or two? Or do you try to find a compromise? Sounds like Mr. Brady has tried to compromise with the 11-day hiatus from training camp to be with her in the Bahamas and now it's being reported he has every Wednesday off. So he's really only working 5 months out of the year now, at most. Could it be challenging for her? Sure, but it's not something that she's going to have to deal with for 20 years. We're talking a year or two at most. And it would appear he has tried to make concessions along the way, so he's not just being a dick about it.
