I like the optics of choosing LSU, since their band played over Wont Back Down during its maiden voyage.

Like this idea. Glad we are making singing Won’t Back Down at end of 3rd quarter our tradition.

So stoked about this. There was a Tom Petty Festival in Gainesville briefly in Tom Petty Park with bands. I can see this turning in to a wider weekend celebration all over town and maybe beyond.

Looking forward to see how this develops with tributes, art, music, parties! So glad we have such a cool & talented American original to celebrate.

I'll be there and just for good measure, I'll fall on the sword and be in Tallahassee this Saturday Night to see Mike Campbell and the Dirty Knobs to get the pump primed.

I know the Heartbreakers have all expressed they don't really want to resurrect another version of the band, but I think the University should try to make that happen next year and make this a major charitable event. Lynch and Campbell seemed to have made amends. I think they could all get on board with honoring Tom.

Not sure Lynch would be included. Steve Ferrone was the Heartbreakers' drummer for over 20 years. He's a much better drummer.

I love how similar Campbell seems to sound to Tom. His guitar parts and vocals mesh seamlessly with the Heartbreakers stuff.

This article briefly discusses why they sound so similar.

Maybe not, but he filled in with Campbell and the Dirty Knobs for a dozen shows including the 2 at High Dive in Gainesville. No reason not to have both of them there. Agree on Ferrone being the better drummer, but Lynch provided many of the early backing vocals. Ferrone is playing with Jay Demarcus from Rascal Flatts and Jason Scheff from Chicago in Generation Radio. Pretty solid band.

I liked him better than Cetera myself. And he can always pull the "My dad was Elvis' bass player" card..

  15. I still listen to Tom Petty Radio on SiriusXM. Sometimes they replay his old shows and for a brief moment I forget that he is gone. I also like the “Last DJ” segment where a guest DJ plays his/her favorite TP songs and tells stories.

One of the only reasons I keep Sirius. Love the Buried Treasure replays from Rick's Airport Recorders.
