The 1860's was a long way from the founding. But that's still an interesting point. I suppose one could point out apparent inconsistencies on both sides here. I think many Christians who support public/school prayers and governmental recognition of "God" in ways that are vague enough to be characterized as merely deist would argue that America was, in fact, founded as a Christian nation.

Personally, I've always thought that very devout Christians should be concerned (and I'm sure many are) about government watering down the Christian message by replacing the Christian God with some vague higher power, although I suppose most see it as a nice compromise so it's just largely ceremonial and therefore can't really be specific enough to matter.

I believe that Jefferson's reference to a Creator was intentionally vague and was probably a nod to natural rights. And with respect to us "trusting" in God, I'm not sure one can really "trust" in a mere deity that may have set all this in motion but does not actively watch over us, answer prayers, intervene, or take sides in wars.

Now that's an idea. Surprised I haven't seen it.
Methodists for Mississippi or Baptists for Bama or Catholics for Carolina. Kind of catchy.

You can't decline to have a licence plate... this thread is about why the state is marking the people who decline to praise God on their car with a different numbering system on standard plates...

They hang in the courtroom here in Dinky Town. 1-5 on the judge's right and 6-10 on his left.

It might also be helpful in tracking traffic fatalities.

    Winner!

This might be the oddest thing to find offensive or wrong I have seen in a long time.

Yeah, they believe in freedom for everyone who thinks like them. And they believe that everyone else only has the option to convert to their way of thinking.

The reason that the 10C arent in some courtrooms isnt the same as this discussion and frankly is a dodge of the question. What is unconstitutional or illegal about either one?

    Huh?

You want people blowing vape in your 11 year olds face and yelling F$?& You around your 9/11/14 year old?

That is not about being offensive. That is about being courteous.

Serious question. Would you really just sit there and not say anything if a group of people continually yelled obscenities? And blew vape in your young kids face? We handled it without having the kids thrown out of the game even though it was a bad experience. But we also shut it down when the line was crossed.

Yeah. That's not in the constitution and that isnt what the constitution says.

Congress is not establishing a religion, forcing anyone to have the tag or preventing the free exercise of.

Absolutely nothing in the constitution saying a state cant have two tags.

I moved to Knoxville about three years ago. On local news nightly was the new tag debacle. First, it was some sort of reflective issue, so traffic cameras weren't reading them; no one bitched about that. Then they were being printed w/o the In God We Trust, and the Tennesseans lost their collective shits. So the state had to start remaking all kinds of tags. I don't truly feel it's anything nefarious. Mine say the University of Florida so I couldn't care less.

This is evidence that some people will always be offended by something.
It’s a car tag. Want the word God on it… get the tag with in God we trust.
Don’t want the word God on it… get the tag without in God we trust.
The original article was sketchy. “People report getting side eye when choosing the one with out In Godwe trust”. Really? That’s ridiculous and only there to stir the pot.
The different numbering issue.. is not a big deal. There is nothing nefarious here. It’s just certain people always being upset, offended and mad. That or it’s pure tribalism. Your side did this so my side is mad about it.

The party that thrives on in-group, out-group dynamics wants to mark folks as part of the out-group. Gee. I wonder why.

Then move to TN and convince enough voters to agree. Otherwise you're the only backwards one here trying to force your opinions and beliefs on people who don't care about what you think.

Tilly is correct here. Notwithstanding the fact this is a State doing it and not Congress, this is not a Constitutional matter. The actual text reads:

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances"

This isn't Congress making any law establishing a religion and even the state isn't prohibiting the free exercise of any religion. The Constitution simply doesn't enter into the equation for this matter.
