Wright averaged less than 4 yards per carry versus EWU. A yard or two per carry can make the difference between moving chains and keeping D fresh or not. Not arguing for Lingard to receive more time, but am suggesting Wright is not 100 percent yet.
I’m not sure. I think we all want to see him succeed but I don’t think he brings enough to the table to take reps from our top3.
It appears that while Wright isn’t the runner that the other 3 are, he brings that consistency. He knows the plays, the checks, the blitzes, the routes.
what in the ever loving hell? So he didn't have a bammer offer out of HS but was invited to transfer? Good for him I guess.
and when they put numbers in the box does lingard know what to do? My only guess is he doesn’t considering playing time.
He had a bammer offer out of hs, but it was late, like ours. He committed to tech early and stuck with it.
He's probably a transfer waiting to happen...Hope not. I like the kid. I think he's really talented based on a small amount of on-field exposure I've seen. Sometimes what goes on with teams, coaches and some kids is at least a little mind-boggling. What makes it ever weirder is we are never privy to the details. At first I thought he was passing around pictures of some coaches wife. I mean the kid just can't get on the field. I'd like to see more of him. He seems so strong, can he not block? Maybe Spivey has some insider intel on the kid? Some stuff is just a mystery. And, as posters have mentioned, you have two really strong NFL type guys and another who can catch and run pretty good most of the time. And then Lingard. Go Gators.
Yeah I was referring to consistent yards gained. Johnson has done a hell of a job blocking and still runs with aggression, Etienne has done well in blocking and his routes and brings a burst and quickness the others have yet to show. And yes #5 has experience but from what I've seen so far from CBN, experience will not save your job, production will. So if #2 & #7 get the majority of the snaps and can do what #5 does, then why not see what the former 5* transfer can do whether with his feet or his hands. Now to be clear , I do t know if he would perform Better than #5 but we won't know till we try.
Eh don't do that, one of the great things about the sport of football is it is truly a team game. Very rarely can a single player do it all by him self. A RB needs his OL for a big running game (except Barry sanders) a WR needs the ball thrown to him to receive it, a QB needs someone to catch it for it to be a completion. The kid scored a TD all while playing with a back up OL. You saying that is the same as saying #7 and #2 didn't score either , it was all the Oline. Nah, it's the team that scored.
Not only does Lingard need more time but Johnson needs more than 7 Carries a gane. He and Etienne need to split 25 Carries a game.
I saw how big the hole was. Credit to lingard for doing his job. I just don’t believe it was some impressive run. It was an impressive play by the team.
I agree it was the team. I agree they all did great on that play. I just don’t think that play means lingard earned more carries. If anything I’d look deeper into giving that OL more snaps.
Wright leads the RBs in carries and is a 4 YPC LESS than ETN/Johnson combo. If we split up those runs we’d have 160 more yards as a team.
So far LL on the season is 5 rush for 45 yds 9.0 ypc 1 TD long of 20 yards. 1 rec 15 yards 15.0 ypc N.wright on the season 38 rush 153 yards 3.9 ypc 2 TD long of 14yds 1 rec 14 yds 14.0 ypc. (Running with 1st team O) You add in the documented workout and practice regimen LL has displayed thus far and his commitment to improvement when he didn't get to play by hitting the gym at 1 am after the game , imo he has earned more playing time.
Sure, he is probably a better runner. Does he know all the protections? Can he pick up a blitz? Does he do all the little things? I don’t know. I can only assume he doesn’t. I don’t know why Wright plays more than Johnson. But I think it has to be something like that.
