Agreed, he was a one-man game changer. Finding such a player must be harder than James’ 2-Star rating makes it seem. I thought Fenley Graham was just this player, but alas, still waiting.
Oh I agree, but it does make you wonder what #2 or #7 can do if given those types of carries and also that attracts other top RB's hence why they have 2 of the top this cycle. I'd imagine if Gibbs keeps that performance up he'll be the 1st RB off the board this draft.
Can we meet in the middle and say that you learn how to "plow" in high school and a college coach is expected to teach you better technique? And if you are one of "those skiers" who don't want to change, well then...bunny slope ho! It may work in skiing but it doesn't work well in football. And yes, I have seen kids (we are talking about 6-8ish) plowing all the way down - and having fun - on black diamond slopes. My legs SCREAM just looking at them.
I seriously wonder how good his tackling could be. If he was about 20-30 pounds heavier, I'd like to see what he could do on defense. It's obvious the talent is there.
I do think we will see more of him in upcoming games, including SEC games. I believe our staff is still in evaluation mode and will remain in evaluation mode for the rest of the season with regard to who gets more playing time and who doesn't. Lorenzo got a TD yesterday - which IMHO keeps him on the short list for more playing time.
Ha Ha! I think you unearthed (or unsnowed) a piece of wisdom. What works on certain slopes will absolutely fail on other more challenging slopes. Factor in snow conditions such as lack of soft covering and or ice another huge factor. This compares to the level you are playing at and the level of your opponent. Good one! Anecdote on the subject: In the early 90's I took my young bride skiing for the first time in Gatlinburg TN. She did amazingly well but we were skiing in Spring conditions on very soft almost slushy snow - super forgiving and the terrain was void of major challenges. Fast forward to her second time on skis about a year later in Switzerland in a deep winter. The base was hard with occasional icy patches and much trickier terrain (not black diamond stuff, but just not your typical bunny hill either). She attempted for about 10 minutes and then took off the skis and walked back up to the top to ride the gondola back down to the lodge! It was the last time she ever attempted to ski, even years later when I went with our kids she never came along again. It was a big mistake to expose her to a challenge that was too great before she was ready for it. I underestimated the difficulty at the time since it was so easy for me!
Meyer didn’t even want him. Mattison was persistent so Meyer deferred to his judgement. I believe that Mattison leaving was the beginning of Meyer’s downfall. Meyer had so much respect for him that Mattison could openly voice his opinion when Meyer was making or about to make a mistake. Every leader needs someone like that on staff.
The reality is every play that is not ETN or Johnson is a net loss of production. You can’t leave points off the field if you want to compete ETN and Johnson should soak up 90% of the carries
Whichever back has an injury at the time which needs an extra week or more to heal up. Or is simply "banged up". I realize your question was probably looking for an answer more based on skill level or performance but I can't make that call as a mere fan. That's up to our staff and their advisors. I was only trying to make the point that he earned the right to play again and in SEC games for sure.
Good analogy. One of my buddies still hasn't learned how to get out of the snow plow. He can always make it to the bottom of the hill, but, he never gets any better, and, now he's holding everyone else back.
When you have a good one like Henry that is head and shoulders above the 2, they should get the carries. 18 isn’t really all that heavy. It wasn’t long ago that 25 wasn’t too many. I agree with splitting Carrie’s for similar talent and there’s a lot more than just running.
I have to agree with you. Although at the start of the year, I would have scoffed at your suggestion.
I would like to see which between Wright and lingard and bring it consistently. Right now to me , #5 has flash moments of his former potential but just isn't rushing well enough consistently. I haven't seen enough of lingard to know if he can show up consistently or not but if we are gonna play 3 then I'd like to see a competition between LL and NW for 3rd spot. Just need some consistency.
