No offense, but ask Gamecock fans if there is any other way to describe Spurrier's departure from Columbia. Honestly, "snide" would probably be the vanilla version.

I do find it incredibly hypocritical that you call out my *ahem* snide remark in a thread where a Gator forum is announcing the injury of a former Georgia player. But hey, you keep doing you.

Eh. I'll agree with the first couple of paragraphs. It wasn't some hit ordered by Kirby but I'll disagree that it wasn't poor technique and borderline dirty. The guy was trying to lay the wood which used to be ok but not anymore. Reggie Nelson would have played half a season after all of his ejections if he played in today's game. You're acting like Pitts squatted like a running back and ducked while cutting. He barely shifted and cine came in upright and even dove with his shoulder/head. Is what it is but in today's game he might get a targeting just for leading with his shoulder upright to a "defenseless " player. I don't like all the interpretations of the rule but it is the rule and cine knew it.

I watched the slow mo and listened to the announcer and disagreed even then. Cine went in high regardless if it was shoulder or helmet and Pitts didn't make some dramatic move to lower his head. He lowered but not by much. He was literally coming down from making the catch.

I thought it was dirty and it looked intentional. I was surprised the commentators were so quick to dismiss it was intentional and it didn't become more of an issue after the game. I suppose that's because we won the game and went on to win the division but I didn't need another reason to dislike UGA. Beating them like a drum for over a decade wasn't good enough - need to get back to that.

Umm, Spurrier used to joke about Georgia, no doubt, but nothing like this.
This is a man possessed. Listen to how he talks about the previous year. The year in which this hit happened.

Audio leaks of Kirby Smart's explicit halftime rant vs. Florida - Sports Illustrated

You don't think this man, who is quite unhinged, would back away from taking out the oppo's best player?
Like he's above that kind of thing? LOL.
You call me extreme. Please listen to Smart's rant, and tell me he's not extreme.

It's probably like Richt's stunt back in 07. (Remember that??)
He might not have explicitly and directly ordered the hit, but he set the tone and gave permission implicitly.

I think they dismissed it because they are there to protect college football, and having a player put on this kind of hit on an oppo player is bad for the game.
For those who think Smart is above this kind of thing, again, listen to the rant he gave the following year, and how bitter he was at losing to us.

It's crazy that you typed this, but still don't understand the implication. Trask left the ball high, forcing Pitts to elevate to make the catch. Pitts is in the air when Cine commits to the tackle. In actual game speed, I'm talking Pitts and Cine's closing speeds, it's almost impossible for Cine to accurately predict where Pitts will land or even how long he will remain elevated. He executes a tackle based on hitting what he thinks is a 245lb TE still elevated...instead, Pitts continuing to descend and on-field adjustment led to what we saw on the field.

But don't anyone fool themselves, this is has nothing to do with whether it was a clean hit or not....this is all a dig at Cine for something that happened two years ago.

The mental gymnastics you are jumping through are impressive, but not quite as impressive as how comfortably Georgia, Kirby Smart, and now Mark Richt are living in your head. If your posts have taught me anything, physiological transference is a real thing in this thread.

It's crazy that you don't understand that Pitts coming down from a catch is a defenseless player and cine came in high, almost upright when he laid the hit. I tried to meet you half way but you've been a condescending contrarian since you've been here.

Don't get me wrong, I completely understand your perspective...it's just one of those things where we'll just have to agree to disagree.

But I will respond to your last comment. I find it very telling that its apparently OK to you (and this board, apparently) to start a thread for the sole purpose of celebrating an injury, yet I'm the one in the wrong. That's a pretty solid red herring if you ask me... ;)

    Agreed.

He launched and led with his helmet against a defenseless receiver. That's what they saw and said. It was dirty.

You're not going to change any opinions on a Florida Gators board, where you are (for the moment) a visitor.

One more insult and you could easily be mistaken for a troll.

You just generalized every one here. A couple mentioned karma and whether or not I agree that it is, that's not the same thing as "celebrating" an injury. In fact a few have mentioned that they do not relish his injury but his name does being back memories if that hit. Which was dirty by today's rules....

No offense, but this is a cowardly approach and overtly obvious way of simply trying to control the narrative, not openly discuss it. That's plain old, unadulterated propaganda. Furthermore, I am not here to change anyone's opinion, I'm simply here to give (and defend) my own. Nothing more. If this board doesn't welcome discussion or differing/unpopular opinions, or has some unwritten moratorium against someone disagreeing with the groupthink, then be upfront about it....and whatever you do, don't hide behind it.

Now, if the mods are allowed to arbitrarily label someone a "troll" (and ban them) because their comments don't toe some imaginary (and what appears to be ever changing) line, that's pretty weak.

...and once again, I find it amusingly hypocritical that a moderator clearly has no issue with a thread surreptitiously celebrating the injury to a player, yet insinuates I'm the one trolling (and apparently the only one hurling insults).

Look, I enjoy this forum, and I enjoy discussing football with people who aren't just Georgia fans. It gives different perspectives and insight I can't get from listening to a bunch of Dawgs fanatics. I also have a thick skin, and don't get worked up in the least when people don't agree with me.....that's why I made no effort in hiding I am a Georgia fan.

I like the exchanges between passionate fans, why try and stifle the dialogue?

"Karma" vs "celebrating" is splitting hairs.

My opinion is that based on what I saw on the field, and it's impossible to tell intent at real-world game speed. I agree with Steratore's assessment, and would be saying the exact same thing if it had been a Georgia player on the receiving end.

You're free to have your opinion but your opinion is completely dismissive of today's rules. The days of enforcers laying claim to no man's land are over and as I said before, Reggie Nelson would have been suspended more than he played under today's rules. Gene Steratore or whatever his name doesn't add veracity to your opinion. And Again, the fact you think a reciever coming down from a catch has no bearing on how a defender lays the wood shows that you haven't accepted these changes. For me personally it has nothing to do with what uniform the player is wearing. We got away with one against Tennessee in my opinion.

Ok, simple question....if no flag had been thrown, or the targeting penalty waved off, would your opinion still be it was "dirty"?

Just give it up. You aren't going to convince them. They won't change our minds either.

    It's not worth the keystrokes.

You know refs are fallible right? We got penalized for hitting a scrambling qb low against Kentucky while Richardson has been tackled low while standing in the pocket multiple times with no flag....
