Cheating scandal at Ohio tournament rocks competitive fishing world | CNN

SMH - The Lie, Deny, Abuse and Manipulate culture that is so manifest in this country affect and effect us at every level. Can't even enter a simple fishing tournament anymore without the scumbags ruining it for everyone.

Apparantly fewer and fewer of us have a conscious anymore, not as long as there are a few bucks waiting at the end of one's treachery.

    Makes me sick.

Nothing new, sadly. Think of baseball steroid scandal, the insane lengths Lance Armstrong went to, all the nation-states that support doping in the Olympics, recruiting violations by boosters in college football, etc etc etc. Nothing surprises anymore, in some sports you almost have to expect taint and either accept it or shut it off.

The fishing one is new lol. Just shows absolutely nothing is immune. You can’t count on honor or ethics ruling the day in anything.

I heard about this and meant to watch the videos. I don't think cheating is new when there's money to be made. But I also think human psychology is such that if someone thinks everyone else is outright cheating or even gaming the system a bit, that they feel entitled to do it as well. But ultimately, people seem to get caught because they get too greedy.

Good grief at the thread title.

This has been America and every other country since the beginning of time.

People have been cheating in fishing tournaments since hooks were invented.

I know, why I could never be in law enforcement, a person could literally have their hand around the handle of a knife plunged into a womans chest and would claim: "Huh? Not me!"

I read once, long ago, that certain communities existed where doors were not locked, neighbors were friendly, children were safe, people shared and helped each other..............

Must have been in another galaxy............

The profit motive is very motivating. Untethered for morals, it always leads to abominations.

Cheating will always happen when there is a prize and a chance of you getting away with it. Not to hijack this thread, but there was a story a few weeks ago about Magnus Carlsen accusing some kid who is a grandmaster of cheating. I never knew you could cheat in chess. My strategy was to just flip the board if an impending loss was sure to occur. But apparently there are more subdued ways of winning or getting a draw. Who knew?

Well said. And it should also be stated that those were the good old days, when libbies were more left center.
No one misses days of segregation when they support make America great again. Even you know this.

Seriously, fishermen have been lying about the size of their catch since time immemorial.

There's a difference between exaggeration and cheating.

Sure, the difference being that lying about the size of the catch crosses the line from exaggeration to fraud when money is at stake.

While I don’t cheat while fishing I do lie about how big they were.

    One of my favorite sayings,,,

    I fish, therefore I lie.
