Wisconsin coach Paul Chryst fired after 2-3 start!

He’ll probably get mentioned 15 times for coaches who get fired.

 

I am surprised he turned out to be a decent Coach at JSU.

 

I guess Dan is going to be on every list. Good luck.

Wisconsin coaching candidates: Lance Leipold, Jim Leonhard among leading options to replace Paul Chryst

 

I suspect Jim Leonard will handle the situation well. He's been offered jobs by many schools including several in the SEC, but he stayed at Wisconsin. It's his time to shine now!

 

I just saw this:

 

Agreed to $11 million buyout, down from the ~$20 million he was owed

Wisconsin to pay Chryst an $11 million buyout

Sounds like a lump sum instead of payments over however many years, but still seem like a lot of money to give up.

 

Chryst was under contract through 2027, he likely took the reduced lump sum buyout because UW waived the ‘offset clause’. He’s banking on getting another job that will more than makeup the difference.

“If the employment agreement is terminated “without cause” prior to its expiration, Employer shall be obligated to continue to pay Coach all monies due for the remaining term of the agreement. Coach shall have a duty to mitigate his contractual damages by seeking other employment and Employer’s obligation to Coach shall be reduced by any income earned by Coach between the date of termination and the end of the term of this agreement.”

It's stunning how much money coaches are rewarded with for failure. Lane Kiffy finally found a gig at Ole Miss that suggests he can coach.

Prior to that - It's just incredible what he did:
Raiders - Failure / big buyout
UT / USC - Christ almighty how many millions did he get from that?

CHUMP - The "I never considered offense as being important" -
Texas (as an assistant but coach in waiting), UF, USCe - are we STILL paying that guy? (Texas got lucky he came to UF).
