    Sources: Wisconsin fires Chryst after 2-3 start

    Wisconsin has fired coach Paul Chryst after the team's 2-3 start, sources told ESPN.

    Defensive coordinator Jim Leonhard will serve as interim coach for the remainder of the season, sources said. The decision came Sunday, a day after Wisconsin lost 34-10 to Illinois, coached by former Badgers coach Bret Bielema. Wisconsin fell 52-21 to Ohio State on Sept. 24, one of its worst losses in recent memory, and fell at home against Washington State as a heavy favorite.

    Chryst, 56, finishes 67-26 in seven-plus seasons at Wisconsin, his alma mater. He won 10 games or more in four of his first five seasons with the Badgers, winning a Cotton Bowl and an Orange Bowl, and three Big Ten West Division titles. But the program fell off beginning in 2020, going 4-3, before a slow start to the 2021 season.

    According to Chryst's contract, Wisconsin will owe him $16.4 million if he's fired without cause, although a different settlement could be negotiated.

    Wow, thought he was doing decent. No Bielema, but I didn’t think expectations were that high there.

    Back in the day a late October firing was seen as aggressively getting a head start on the search for a new coach. Now we’re seeing late September/first weekend of October inductions into the exclusive People Who Get Paid Millions to Stay Away From Their Former Office club.

    Everyone is chasing the bandwagon fan's wallet. Most of us regular fans probably aren't worth worrying about, as we're actual fans and probably don't regularly buy new merchandise, donate big money or send money to pay-for-play schemes. Bandwagon fans have to buy tons of stuff to display their waivering support for the current team.

    I'll watch Florida if we're good or if we suck. But most of the viewers don't care that much.

    I’m not sure who Wisconsin thinks they’re gonna pass in the B1G, and who they think they’re going to bring in to do that. Mich St just foolishly committed 90 something million $$$ to their HC who is 2-3 with games against pOSU-Wisky-Mich in the next 3. Chryst gets a nice $16mil parting gift, smh.
