Of the roughly 1.5 million conscripted during Vietnam, there were roughly 570,000 draft dodgers.

So now it is the next stage of the cope: we didn't want that stupid town anyway!

Quite the turnaround from the glorious Russian victory we were supposed to be expecting...yesterday...and which you just claimed was true a few minutes ago.

Speaking of which, this is the wrong time for Biden to be barking about a two-theatre war. He doesn’t appear to have the dogs for one war, let alone two ...

Why is the U.S. military struggling to recruit young Americans?

For a lot of young Americans the military is considered employment of last resort. One reason that recruitment is difficult could be an unemployment rate of 3.7%. Another problem mentioned in your linked article is that a significant number of potential recruits fail to qualify for military service.

2.2 million Americans out of 27 million potentially eligible for the draft were conscripted during the Vietnam war, a period of over 10 years. Approximately 30,000 fled the country, a little over 200,000 were charged with draft evasion and of those charged with violating the law less the 9,000 were actually convicted.

As a point of information the 300,000 National Guardsman sent to Iraq were deployed over an 8-year plus period from January 2003 (although the war didn't actually begin until April) through 2011. Your apparent attempt at trying to draw analogy between Putin's "partial mobilization" and the deployment of the National Guard to Iraq completely fails . All of the National Guardsmen volunteered for service in the Guard knowing that they could be deployed and they were all well trained prior to deployment.

I don't even normally bother responding anymore when he pivots away from the war to what's wrong with the US. It's a common pivot for him.

570,000 total. And started a long streak of losing wars and proxy wars.

I’ve already explained to you that as long as the tactic on this thread is to mock the Russian military performance, I’m going to mock ours. It’s not like I’ve gotten much for my tax dollars in recent decades.

I suspect that Ronald Reagan, Barry Goldwater and William F. Buckley the fathers of the modern conservative movement in the US would be horrified that politicians and commentators who call themselves conservatives are supporting the aggression of a former KGB colonel who referred to the collapse of the Soviet Union as the greatest geopolitical disaster of the 20th Century .
