We are driving back from South Florida across the alley and up 75. I won't bore you at the typical scenes of destruction other Top Golf at the Ft Myers exit really caught one's eye. They won't reopen anytime soon. Nets shredded. Perhaps the most heartening thing to see where the multitude of convoys of out-of-state or out of county emergency vehicles and/or emergency response power restoration vehicles heading to different parts of Southwest Florida. Looked to be well coordinated and very uplifting
Still driving north on 75. Thought the worst would be around Ft. Myers. But looked MUCH WORSE around North Port to Englewood. Running water with actual white caps in places on the side of the road, for miles. Multiple snapped pines, impassable exits and side roads, some dead animals, including deer. Not urban but observable damage, especially massive water intrusion, looked far, far worse
Florida CEO told staff to bring kids to office and continue work during Hurricane Ian: ‘We’ll make it super fun!’ See how long this company lasts now. apparently they are affiliated with Scientology, which has some sort of credo that things outside your control can’t be an excuse for not performing.
Drove far enough to get signal. South lee county is wrecked. Vacating hospitals. We got lucky and Estero Bay blew north. Sure most of you have seen more than me but friends on beaches and along river got it bad. Stay safe out there. More people die after hurricane than from hurricane
Just saw a young man interviewed who said he lost 12 of his mobile home park neighbors, one man died holding his puppy.
I don't want to sound uncaring, because that's terrible, but if you choose to ride out a major hurricane in what the industry calls a "wobbly box" you made a very bad choice.
That was my first reaction. But there are cantankerous sorts, add the elderly without support, bravado types, etc.
Oh thank goodness, both for you and my sister. Hope y'all do well in the recovery/restoring power, etc.
Yep, second time they have been devastated in the last 20 years. I love the place, but would think a long time before living there. The destruction of the causeway is a new twist. Back to my youth when you could only get to Sanibel by boat/ferry I guess.
