All this definitely puts things in perspective, football is fun, something we're very passionate about but it's still a game. In a few days lives will be wrecked, hearts broken and some may never recover. My family is in Orlando, thankfully it won't be as bad as other places but still lifting up prayers for all Floridians.

Four years ago next month, I went through a Cat 5 here in the Panama City area, Michael. For what ever reason, storm surge wasn't the major devastating component, it was the high wind velocity topping out near landfall in Mexico Beach in the 160's mph. That town and the eastern part of Tyndall AFB were flattened. I rode it out in an old two story house here in Lynn Haven, which sustained massive water damage due to the roof getting blown off. The aftermath and the cleanup from a major storm of this nature is unbelievable. I never want to go through any thing remotely close to that again.

And yes people are stubborn. Nobody wants to leave their home unless they have to. It's a miracle the loss of life here wasn't any greater than it was. People actually tried to ride out the storm in manufactured homes. Most of the people in the evacuation zones wouldn't leave their homes. Thankfully, as I mentioned, the storm surge wasn't catastrophic because so many people were riding it out in flood prone areas.

I pray that everyone in the affected area makes it through safely. Have patience because its a long recovery process.

    Continuing my rant......

Earlier this week I was thinking it really seems like we live in a "Every man for himself" era.

On the road, especially. You're basically on your own.

I just saw the Naples Fire Department misjudged the surge and didn't get their fire trucks out in time. The fire station is under water.

And they are telling US what we should and shouldn't be doing?

    /Rant

I lived on the Gulf coast for 32 years and went through many hurricanes. I will never live there again-water always wins.

I had a long period of no storms, but the last 7 has been entertaining.

Silver lining, maybe a bunch of folks from Northern exits will go back ;) or they will buy everything cheap.

The shocker in the morning will be how many millions without power or water.

My sister and brother-in-law live there, too. And, they also stayed. Last we heard from them, they were in the calm of the eye. Ever since, nothing.

Anybody have any reports from that area about flooding, tornados, damage? This isn't morbid curiosity, just worry about them in the face of no info. Thanks in advance.

There is no quit in the backside of this storm. Think it’s worse than the front side.
