Hurricane a'comin (Ian)

Near Cat 5 hurricane: “I’m going to blow you down, palm trees!”

Palm trees: “Nope.”

 

It's all man made canals from Port Charlotte (especially) south.

Punta Gorda Isles has every house on water.

My neighborhood as a kid was every other street.

 

Repeat of Charlie but worse ? Charlie raked Orlando, when I was living there, as just a Cat 1. We still lost our roof, fence and power for four days. It changed the look of Orlando. As a Cat 1.

 

I mentioned Punta Gorda Isles.
This is what we mean when we say SW florida is all man made canals:

I'm curious about what that means in terms of impact from this storm. I would think it will make it worse but obviously I'm speculating without expertise. Either way it's bad
