Of course there is. But that is in no way unique to UF. Florida fans are no worse than lsu, bama, fsu, uga, osu fans etc. All teams generally have the same amount of irrational followers.

I was a pretty young kid when all that went down but I'm a bit of a historian so yes, I "remember."

I want to say Alabama voted against stripping us of our sec tile while Tennessee and Georgia voted for it?

That is true, but I do find it interesting that the when asking non rival fans that don't like/hate UF why, the answer is usually the fans.

Just going on my now fading memory… Alabama, Auburn, and Mississippi State voted against stripping the title, the other six; Georgia, Tennessee, Vanderbilt, Kentucky, Ole Miss, and LSU voted to strip the title.

Why was the national narrative about Florida's arrests when there were other programs with the same or more arrests at that time? I want to say Georgia had as many or more arrests when we were taking heat for it. Narratives get pushed and people run with them.

There was also a narrative that the Florida program was perfect because of Tim Tebow, so perhaps it was a response to that.

Possibly but one narrative may have been opinion based right or wrong and the other one was supported by numbers of arrests. It didn't matter how many times someone pointed out other schools legal issues, florida kept getting the negative publicity. Now one might say Urban was unlikable and unscrupulous so that could have fueled it too. Not unlike when spurrier came back to coach here in the 90s. The new kid on the block having the success we had did not sit well with the old guard. Meyer and Spurrier both had brash public personas as well. I'd argue that Spurrier in particular was a much more ethical person than Tom Osborne or Bobby Bowden yet was vilified in comparison to those two wolves in sheep's clothing. Narratives are powerful and people are petty

I'm not saying what you are speaking of isn't true, because it definitely is. But I'm not really sure what narratives about coaches, or arrests have to do with how our fans act.

All fans consist of a wide demographic of people. If we take the worst of the worst of each fan base and then strip away identifiers I'd gather you wouldn't see much difference. Social media has given a megaphone to the lowest common denominator. I will agree that certain entitlement or insecurity may color some fan bases more or less depending on their history, i.e. Bama feels like college football success is their God given right or that fsu and Georgia have a certain insecurity overall regarding Florida but the normal fan will usually give and get respect. Fringes are going to fringe. Florida fans have been given a spotlight in my opinion because of our continued failures and instability of a once proud and successful program. Again, if Georgia were not winning then their fan base would be equally scrutinized right now. Just look at the freaks that come out of the woodwork when Bama loses one game.

They let us vote because they knew they had the votes to strip. Marshall Criser (UF President at the time) was incensed… they had already awarded us the trophy. Criser refused to return it , I honestly don’t know, but it very well could still be in our possession.

Legendary sports writer Dan Jenkins once described thusly: "Florida has the arrogance of Notre Dame and the tradition of Wake Forest.".
    Dan Jenkins disagrees.

It is the same for othet schools. I hate KY basketball because of their fans as an example.
