Minneapolis Schools: Fire white teachers first

White guilt makes one do some crazy things!

 

I think the "fragility" comment was applied to all the white people here saying "noooo you cant do that" but I suppose the person who said it can weigh in

The bargaining unit is the team that negotiates with the employers and works out the fine details, the membership at large votes for the CB agreement reached between the two parties. Seeing as how the teachers were on strike, they obviously had clear demands as to what they wanted. Those are typically reflected by the people who are appointed to the bargaining unit, because the bargaining unit are themselves fellow employees. They arent random people coming in from somewhere else.

I have no problem with that argument, but it is not what’s being discussed. What’s being discussed is firing certain teachers with the color of their skin being the only criterion. That’s unconstitutional no matter how one words it.

Seems to me there's other reasons to be against race-based hiring and firing other than racial fragility.

 

Our administration has changed the physical requirements for the expressed purpose of hiring more females and diversity. We had a speaker address the fire department about his role in hiring diversity including hiring less qualified candidates if necessary. We had 3 black officers voice their disdain for this practice because of the nature of our jobs. I don't think it was white fragility that lead them to openly criticize this practice....

 

i think, and maybe it is only me, that qualified minorities might just look at these hiring practices as offensive to them, demeaning their accomplishments in the name of diversity.

Does this mean male teachers, who only account for about 25%, are protected?

Yes probably. I can't speak for others though. Just sharing my direct experience with these particular individuals who by the way are damn good at their jobs. I imagine some people are fine with the practice but in the case of my coworkers who are not, "white fragility " certainly isn't a factor.

Edit: just an addendum , these particular employees do work on recruiting minorities through an outside organization but that doesn't mean they believe in lowering standards.

 

When you think, it is almost always only you. This may be one of the exceptions.
