In 2017, about 2/3 of undocumented immigrants had been in the country ten years or more. That's building a life. DACA represents about 700,000 now adults, who came here as kids, and graduated high school here in the US. The majority of undocumented immigrants come here and stay. Those that don't do generally return home at or around the same rate as new ones come in.

So do we have open borders or not? The narrative seems to keep changing

We have open borders as evidenced by all the migrants that the massive government bureaucracy tasked with patrolling the border for migrants has detained. I don't know what is so complicated about that.

    Yes, we have open borders.
The Biden Administration and his party have no desire to visit or secure our southern border.

I really don’t care how many immigrants come to America. I do care about how many cross illlegally and are getting away. One side wants to look at the numbers that have been caught but we never seem to talk about those that get away. How many terrorist have crossed that we do not know about? How many child smugglers? How many kidnappers, rapists, and drug dealers. We know the drug cartels have their hands all over the border. Are we supposed to sit here and believe it all just good hard working people looking to better themselves?
Secure the border. Fix it. Fix our immigration policy. Make it a fine mesh strainer and let a bunch of people through… but weed out those that have no business coming across.
Right now the border patrol is doing their best… despite being mislabeled as racists. The border towns are doing their best. Funny how SC and NY start whining over just a few bus loads. Send them all to sanctuary cities. Big cities. DC, NY, Seattle, NO, Chicago, Detroit, etc.. let them share in The burden that the southern boarder states are dealing with . I say to wag your finger and say yak tsk when you don’t have to deal with it.

How else can you expect stock dividends? Hire Americans? Pffft.

And while I think it is completely childish and unprofessional, I laugh every time I see a story bout buses to DC

How many terrorist attacks have been linked to the Southern Border?

"Secure the border" is just an empty slogan with no real meaning. There is never a point at which the border is "secure." So it just becomes a bottom-less pit of money based upon what could, theoretically, happen, but for some reason hasn't.

And it is funny how simply changing the framing around immigration policies causes huge changes in preferred policies. So if you can frame immigrants as a burden on local areas to be spread, then you are all in favor of government providing transportation to migrants all over the country. If, instead, it is framed as a benefit to the immigrant, suddenly it is a ridiculous proposal ("they are sending immigrants to your community, how awful").

And you'll be happy to know that we have a large and building Central American population in the NO area, although a lot of it is actually in Kenner instead of the city. We have a huge Honduran population here. It isn't a burden.

To date, there have been exactly 2 terrorists arrested who have come over the border undocumented from Mexico. And they came in as children in the 1980s and were arrested in the early 2000s as adults. The last thing cartels want are terrorists on the S. border. Terrorists mean American military, which is bad for cartel business.

We have 2,000 miles of border, and immigrants now mostly from C. American countries that have lost all hope they can survive at home. So like millions before them, they leave to come to America (cue Neil Diamond). This has been happening for generations. To think we can stop it is silly. Best we can do is control it. And twice, bi-partisans have come up with a plan that would, for the most part, work. The last one being the Gang of 8 back in 2013.

Weeding out the undocumented immigrants just looking for work and eeking out a living here would help sift these out from the bad actors. And there are always bad apples in every bunch. We don't need more gang members or other criminals, but it's harder to catch these when they are all in together with everyone else. Set up control centers where undocument immigrants looking for work can register and enter legally, and those left to cross the open desert are those who are more likely to be the bad actors.

I guess that's what happens with shoddy construction

Smugglers have breached the Trump administration’s border wall along the US-Mexico frontier more than 3,000 times, government maintenance records obtained by the Washington Post reveal.

Nearly 500 miles of barrier was constructed by the Trump administration beginning in 2019, mostly in rural New Mexico and Arizona. Former president Trump touted the “big, beautiful wall” as the “Rolls-Royce” of barriers, but smugglers have breached the wall at least 3,272 times, mostly with common power tools found at hardware stores.

Quite logical. If you had a pen full of cattle and the gate is busted open, would apprehending some of the cows as they left disprove that the gate was open?

biden's approach is like the little dutch boy sticking his fingers in the dike, eventually he runs out of fingers to stop the onslaught.

And Trump was successful at stopping undocumented immigrants? That's funny. As the CATO Institute put it, Trump lowered legal immigration numbers, but did nothing to stop undocumented immigration.

Illegal immigration is the most hyped non-issue ever that is really just a coded racial issue.
