You’re correct, and Trump can overrule any objections. However Trump’s White House counsel failed to generate the paperwork to change the classification markings. Trump can’t just wave his tiny hands over the docs and say “I declassify thee” thinking that’s all he needs to do.

Having said that the argument that he declassified the documents is irrelevant because the documents weren’t his to take, but he took them anyway. Further they weren’t stored properly, and he destroyed some of the documents. Finally we don’t know what was done with those documents. Were they sold on the black market, or traded to foreign adversaries for monetary loans or favors. We’re still wondering how Jared got that two billion dollar loan from Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

Right. They have to meet the definition of national defense secrets.

The first thing we need to understand is that the documents which must remain secret have not been shown to anyone else

On a deeper level, we may now have an even greater understanding of Biden’s trip to Saudi Arabia. Presumably that $2 billion deal and these documents were an agenda item. The White House may not have had knowledge of this search, but the IC and POTUS would have to have knowledge of what these documents are and where they were. Even to rule out a transfer.

Next is convening a grand jury after the FBI and DOJ have had time to go through everything which appears to be voluminous. Then a grand jury with the almost inevitable indictments. There may be a lot more here than meets the eye. I've tried cases in Federal court. They won't bring a grand jury in until they have a case of overwhelming evidence of guilt. Trump's lawyers know this and are already negotiating.

Not going back through the entire thread for exact quotes but I recall several posts from different Trump apologists asking why the DOJ didn't request the search warrant sooner since Trump had apparently moved the documents from the White House to Mar-a-Lago in January of 2021. Upon reflection the answer is actually fairly simple. Earlier this year Trump did return 15 boxes of documents to the National Archives and Records Administration following a request from the Agency. The recently executed search warrant was obtained by the DOJ only after the DOJ/FBI was informed by an insider or in Trump's parlance a "rat" that several boxes of documents were still in storage at Mar-a-Lago. Perhaps the biggest mistake was assuming that Trump was being fully compliant when he turned over the original tranche of documents earlier in the year. The real mistake was relying on a pathological liar who demonstrated literally thousands of times that he was completely untrustworthy.

I think that we all know that Trump isn't actually attempting to make the serious legal argument that he declassified the documents but is really playing to his followers who literally believe everything that he says and still constitute a majority of self-identified Republicans.

That’s an assumption, and an assumption is a road best left untraveled. All we know about Biden’s trip to Saudi Arabia was economic cooperation in the Middle East to include Israel, making sure Iran doesn’t posses nuclear weapons, and the Khashoggi murder.

    Anatomy of righteous :rolleyes::rolleyes:hysteria:

    https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2022/08/12/trump-search-gop-hyperbolic-reaction-collapsing/

“The more we learn about the FBI’s search of Mar-a-Lago, the sillier — and more sinister — the overcaffeinated Republican defenses of former president Donald Trump look.

A genius-level spinmeister, Trump set the tone with a Monday evening statement announcing: “These are dark times for our Nation, as my beautiful home, Mar-A-Lago in Palm Beach, Florida, is currently under siege, raided, and occupied by a large group of FBI agents. Nothing like this has ever happened to a President of the United States before.

    ”
That description allowed his followers to imagine a scene straight out of a Hollywood action picture, with agents in FBI jackets busting down the doors and holding the former president and first lady at gunpoint while they ransacked the premises. Although Trump’s team had a copy of the search warrant, he gave no hint of why the FBI might have been there, claiming, “It is … an attack by Radical Left Democrats who desperately don’t want me to run for President in 2024.

    ”

His followers — which means pretty much the whole of the Republican Party — took up the cry based on no more information than that. Fox News host Mark Levin called the search “the worst attack on this republic in modern history, period.” Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Tex.) called it “corrupt & an abuse of power.” Sen. Rick Scott (R-Fla.) compared the FBI to “the Gestapo.” Not to be outdone, former House speaker Newt Gingrich (R-Whackadoodle) said the FBI was the “American Stasi,” and compared its agents to wolves “who want to eat you.” “Today is war,” declared Steven Crowder, a podcaster with a YouTube audience of 5.6 million people. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) tweeted “DEFUND THE FBI!” Former Trump aide Stephen K. Bannon, among many others, suggested that the FBI and the Justice Department (“essentially lawless criminal organizations”) might have planted evidence.”

There may be several we don't know about. There's also something called a "superceding indictment" which means the original indictment gets additional charges added on as the investigation escalates and "co-conspirators" which in Trump's orbit are many , start "flipping". A friend of mine used to say " the only person who wins in Federal Court, is the first one to flip to the prosecution.

The answer might just be that this is a witch hunt.

    Trump leaves office.
    Trump waives magic wand.
    Poof.
    Classified documents are declassified.
    DOJ comes after Trump.

Maybe this is in fact a witch hunt …

and they caught themselves a witch!

Unless there are mental issues involved most actions take place with a motive. What is Trumps motive to possess those documents? What does he gain from them?

How many times have we heard this in the last 7 years? There is more to meet the eye. There is something there to take him down. The evidence is insurmountable. How many times has Adam Schiff claimed to have Trump? 100, a 1,000 or more. The highs and lows you people must go through. Some are still clinging to Russia collusion. That's Energizer Bunny insanity.

Try to avoid the shiny things, the pushed narrative, and keep the full context of the last 7 years of DC targeting operations as the main storyline. Have you ever wondered how the democrats, the DNC, the major networks combined with cable networks start the day repeating the same words over and over again as if they had a memo with instructions on the days specific talking points. It's high volume and multichannel. It's a firehose of bullshit and it sticks to some.

If the content of the documents (FBI raid) was so urgent, so vital to national security, so critical to safeguard “nuclear weapon information” from potential exposure…. Then why did the warrant have a 14-day window to execute? Maybe they really wanted something else.

I hope the Trump team has multiple copies of the interviews, emails, text messages and documents from the Crossfire Hurricane operation. That is what this is about. Not nuclear codes. They may has well referenced aliens as the reason behind the raid. President Trump declassified documents that show how the institutions within the U.S. government targeted him. That is what they want, because at some point (maybe the near future) the democrats may not have the power. The Rino's have recently taken a beating in the primaries, which has to make the DC elite nervous. My guess is this raid is just the beginning of what may happen before the November elections.
