Heard that Richie Schiekofer (OF) will transfer to UF from Rutgers. Good hitter (.330 BA); good fielder with speed; great kid. I think for 1 year only. Good get.

This was posted in another thread but, I agree, it should have had its own thread. Thanks, bigsky.

Nice pick up. Kids that hit in cold weather (first 20-25 games not real warm) tend to take off in warmer weather. This kid hit in cold weather.

Kid could be our new lead off hitter with that plate discipline. I could see he and Robertson (CF) battling it out. However, it appears Robertson didn’t have a good summer. Keep Wyatt in left and Ty in right.

Interesting thought and I like it. I guess I'll do some research on Rutgers baseball. Thanks

On second thought, that'd be a no. In the 4 games I looked at Richie was batting 6th or lower in the order and played RF. His stolen bases on the year were 2 out of 5. It doesn't seem like he has lead off potential.

    Ok but...Scheikofers batting averages were:
    .375
    .316
    .330
    the past three years.

He signed with us because our dining hall served the best wiener schnitzel with a snifter of schnapps on the side.

I know exactly. That's what's got me so puzzled about getting him so late. I can't imagine him not playing. Does that mean there's issues with Robertson and what about the new guy Tejeda that's highly ranked? Now if Schiekofer was born in Helen, GA then maybe he's not truly German.

Tejeda has first base written all over him if he's a fielder. Maybe a pitcher.

Fall practice, as always, will be interesting.

Tejeda is 6-6 and said to be good with the glove.

If he hit that well in cold weather imagine what he’ll do in warm weather!!!

20 of his first 25 games were probably played in temperatures 50° or less with a couple probably sitting in the mid to high 30s. If any of you have ever tried to hit with it is cold out it’s not much fun and it’s also not very easy. It’s just very different. I know they had a trip to Hawaii but the other 20 games were in very cold to chilly weather.
