The allure of Miami from afar is far different from when you live or work there. I work on Brickell. Go 4 blocks west and you won’t find someone that speaks English. Hour commutes each way in traffic on I95 or US1. Cars stolen or broken into at night. The glitz of a recruiting visit on their small campus and going on a boat ride on the Atlantic are far different than being a college student there. 11,000 undergrads and 17,000 overall on that small campus. UF has 3 times as many black people on campus when compared to Miami. In fact, UF has 49 percent people of color enrollment currently. More people of color attend UF than the entirety of the Miami undergrad and grad school enrollment of 17,000.
Living in Florida I have no desire to be in Miami. None, nada ever. But I guess others love that way of living.
