Jones was his guy. I don't blame him for telling Corral he had to earn it. Who quickly hung up the phone and rang Kiffin. I'm just glad we had Trask.

Don't think that's what happened at all and he was a fool for thinking Jones was his guy. Mullen didn't even call Matt until later after he'd contacted Fields, who was a strong commit to UGA, and Jones who Meyer had just discarded. Mullen didn't visit the Corral family until after Fields had passed on UF and Jones had committed. That visit was at Brian Johnson's urging who badly wanted Matt. FYI, Johnson is now the QB coach for the Philadelphia Eagles and Mullen is what?

One of the biggest recruiting blunders of the last decade. I was done with Mullen before he coached his first game.

Corral was just quoted as saying he took the easy way out and early playing time at Ole Miss and if he had to do again, he would have chosen a college program with greater competition.

Mullen was whiffing in QB’s and if it wasn’t for Urban telling Emory to go to Gainesville because he was going to be on the bench for a while at OSU, he wouldn’t have been able to get Emory. Mullen felt Corral just didn’t fit his scheme

What about Burrow? Meyer probably told Mullen about him. Knowing Dan he didn't even contact him.

I feel like I read something on here about Burrow insulting Mullen’s wife and so he was never an option. But then that was always an unconfirmed rumor and with the benefit of hindsight it definitely seems possible that Mullen decided he simply couldn’t be bothered.

Interessting, Dan had this reputation of being a QB "whisperer"
but he had Franks over Trask and had it not been for Franks injury, would Trask have sniffed PT? Trask, as it turned out, made an argument to be as good a thrower to ever play the position at UF.

That was certainly the case his last year, which was incredible, albeit wasted by the well documented breakdown of the defense under you know who.

Then of course the Emory situation of last year. I'm not as quick to throw darts at Emory as many are, but any critical analysis of his QB play reveals he struggled at the position, especially at critical junctures. But he did his best and was one heck of a classy kid. Nor is it fair to blame all UF's short-comings on him.

Good post - but people conveniently forget that Trask actually got the start and promptly got hurt and it went back to Emory. Mullen fumbled the ball with his QBs over his 4 years, but Trask getting injured before he could really prove himself in game conditions was a big factor in how things played out

Smoke on the other side too that he is staying put. Just depends on who you trust. Best just to let these play out.

Even if Corral states himself that he made a mistake? Then it’s *still* Mullen’s fault?

I don't care if NIL is the reason ... Miami is killing it on the recruiting trail. You have to give Mario some credit as the players believe what he's selling.
