The ncaa didn’t let the genie out, the federal government did. The ncaa fought with all their might to keep the genie IN the bottle.

NCAA let the genie out by clamping down hard on the egregious cheaters (we all know who they were/are) WAY before a Supreme Court case about some stupid NIL which almost zero college students were/are capable of earning. They okayed something without thinking about how easy it would be to circumvent the intent.

College football is digging its own grave now...

Lane Kiffin said it best recently: "you legalized gam Ling. Those with the most money will get the best recruits"

I have been so bored the last few years with the playoffs being the same basic four teams every year. Now we are headed to even more of the same, year after year after year.

Not one high school kid deserves a dollar until they are on campus and seeing the field. That is what NIL was supposed to do... Pay players because the university is making money off them. How can these kids, most of which will barely see the field in their first year, be Co tributing to the university making money if they are not playing, or redshirted?

If we are going to allow this unlimited purchasing of players, at least add an NIL/Salary cap. Can you imagine the total devastation of pro sports if they dropped the salary cap? It's where college football is now.

Pretty much but capping nil isn’t an option as of yet. Schools may be able to get together and rule the can’t be paid till on a roster but I think that would still be considered interfering with their right to nil. They really need to break away with likeminded teams so they are on the same page. The teams have to want it fixed. I think some love being able to outbid everyone but only as a group can the top teams make them abide. You have 5-10 teams that probably like this as they can buy talent but there are probably 20-30 teams that would love a level playing field .Drop the dead weight that just wants a conference check and doesn’t care if the top teams cheat. All members need a vested common interest. Now you have 590+ teams that’ll never win but they have their hands out and don’t care who cheats.

That is most definitely not what "NIL" was supposed to do.....but only a fool would have believed that it wouldn't be immediately compromised to nothing more than purchasing players with the pathetic NCAA in charge. And so it has.

I was talking to a high school coach today that said a high ranking RB had a $125 K contract if he commits and doesn’t go on any of his other 4 OVs.

    Ohio State was the school

Approximately 2 years ago I was pushing then Soph Cormani McClain as a better talent, while most on this board were in a tizzy about who was getting teammate Sam McCall's commitment. Not sure yet where I stand on NIL, in as far as advanced deals before a player has enrolled? Cormani however is a talent in my mind worthy of bidding for as well as doing a advance deal, that will mute anything Bama, A&M etc.... will offer. Cormani is that kind of talent, that important to the Florida football program and finally that important to keep his talent in state.......this a talent the staff has to fo all in on!

NIL comes from 3rd parties so there is no one(NCAA/conference or university) that can install a salary cap. Also if anyone did it would be met with lawsuits from players calling it price fixing. And the players would win.

Agreed. Tough to reel it in now that pandoras box has be opened. Perhaps some creative rule making at the University level? Maybe certain ammenities, benefits, and perks are eligible only to those below a certain income level... essentially a back door to usher in a salary cap? Dount that wpuld work either. The problem with any of that is who goes first? The moment a school attempts to regulate the earning capacity of a prospect they will become instant targets for negative recruiting and be demonozed in the court of public opinion.

My hope is that these collectives and donors realize the foolishness of giving millions to unproven talent (fickel teenagers no less) and the "going rate" falls back to earth.

Your thought on income level/perks would be hit with discrimination lawsuits. The only way to fix NIL is for yahoos throwing around money to lose their asses when there is no ROI.
The best scenario would be to see a school go 7-5 for consecutive years after their collective shells out millions. Talk about calling for the coaches head year 2 or 3 for underperforming. LOL there is going to be a blood bath among the coaching ranks in a couple of years.
Agents better start rewriting coaches contracts with stronger golden parachutes.

Wait until the final week before signing day(s).

Imagine what kind of desperate money will be offered from schools that have a weak board and big needs at one or more positions.

NIL is supposed to share the profits schools make off the players name, image, and likeness correct? So how are third parties making money of a player's NIL? If they are "sharing" the profits with the players, is it really NIL?

And darn, makes you wonder how the NFL gets away with their salary cap... Kids getting Nil contracts are professionals without a doubt, so there really isn't a distinction between college players and NFL. Heck, most of the NIL deals are way better than minimum NFL pay and probably in range of 3rd-4th round draft picks. Totally ridiculous for a high school kid.... Sad our culture thinks this is right, yet people struggle to pay rent while working 2-3 jobs. Sigh
