Kind of sick and weird that two people liked this off topic post…

I have and will continue to give Thomas some credit in the fact that I think he's fairly intellectually honest. But I find it funny how much he quotes himself, lol.

Yes of course you can blame all the idiots who think Hillary was so horrible that they somehow rationalized that an incompentant delusional serial liar / idiot was a better choice. But fundamentally Democrats could have easily avoided by voting the imperfect party candidate. But instead they decided to do a Carl Eller and run in to their end zone.

Not really off-topic since it's a response to a post that implicitly considers conception the beginning of human life. To that poster (and apparently yourself), a zygote the size of the head of a pin, a 6-week old fetus roughly the size of a kidney bean incapable of surviving outside the womb, a 25-week old fetus capable of living outside the womb with extensive medical intervention and a full term baby are all human beings. Speaking only for myself although surveys seem to indicate a majority of Americans feel the same, different standards should apply depending at the point during the period of gestation. A different standard should apply at 6-weeks than at 20 weeks. To the extreme prolifers the same standard (near absolute prohibition) should apply regardless of the point in the period of gestation.

When you can’t get anyone else to join your reasoning, there aren’t many other folks to cite. :D

I actually think his argument that substantive due process is a fabrication that was invented because the Court was unwilling to overrule Slaughterhouse so they just pretended that the due process clause did the same thing the P&I clause used to is a somewhat compelling one. The idea that we need to vacate cases going back to the late 1800s so that we can decide them under a different constitutional framework is admittedly a tough one to get behind though.

I figured it went over your head. I admitted that I do discriminate based on many factors, including race. Everyone does this to some degree so stop trying to play racist god here.
You’re either a troll or you’re being obtuse. I will give you another try before I block.
In the spirit of bipartisanship I’ll give you another shot.

They could have codified Roe when Obama had supermajorities, something he explicitly promised in his campaign. If more people had turned out in 2014 maybe the senate doesnt flip and Obama appoints Scalia's successor. The idea that there is one thing that set this in motion is really not how events work. More than anything, it should all highlight the arbitrary nature of the court, and the ridiculous power that it has where an election years before matters or where the health of a very old judge or failing to strategically retire at the right time can have a massive effect on how law is shaped. Its absurd on every level and not democratic at all!

Can you elaborate on the power that the squad yields? So far I haven't seen it

They're all second term members of the House and have no real power but they do make nice symbols for right-wing media. I have to concede the same applies to Marjorie Taylor Greene for Democrats, the difference being that even though the squad is out in left field none of them are so bat shit crazy as to suggest wildfires were caused by Jewish space lasers or to warn about the dangers of artificial meat created in peach tree dishes.

This is a restriction on the poor and the young. The rich will be able to travel. I just hope this wakes up the electorate.

I wholeheartedly disagree with abortion. However, thats not my choice to make for everyone.

IMO - if it has a heartbeat, it has life and killing it is wrong but I do feel like there are situations where its more necessary. What I don't like are these women that go out and get pregnant only to use abortion as their get outta jail free card. If you consensually have sex and make a baby - take care of it or wear a condom.

Condoms arent 100 percent effective. Abstinence is the only 100 percent safe way to never get pregnant.

Meh - condoms, birth control, pull out and morning after pill should be like 99.9% no babies being made.

A lot of these people are just nasty and don't want to do what it takes to not have a baby. Why do you want a bunch of dudes doing that to you or even if you do it with your partner -- its easy to almost 100% make this not a problem. Other than that, I will refer you to my post...

First I disagree that all of those you list are as influential as the squad, Bernie, and others are in the Democratic party (see Biden). Maybe Jordan is, but he's not really extreme, just a fighter. There have been plenty of laws, both Federal and state, that I didn't like, but most were passed by liberals, so I don't vote for them. Until now, for the past half century, I have put up with the Supreme Court making liberal decisions I disagreed with. I therefore voted for people to change all that, so I am now happy to see it no longer leans left.

Yeah, I've read his arguments about substantive due process being an oxymoron. I think he's probably right. But I'm not sure the analysis changes that much if we use a different name or nomenclature. As a bit of an aside, I don't remember what the central basis was for the ruling in Obergefell, but I remember thinking that an equal protection argument seemed pretty straightforward given that the ban was based upon nothing but the sex or gender of the parties.

Absolutely. If Bernie's supporters bothered to vote instead of staying home, Trump would gone back to firing contestants on the Apprentice instead of doing irreparable damage to the country. He won Michigan, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania all by less than one percent out of millions cast. A number of surveys indicated that if Democratic turnout was the same in 2016 as it was in 2012 Hillary Clinton would have been elected. She may have been unlikable and incredibly flawed but she was still vastly superior to the corrupt clown who backed into the presidency and we could end up paying the price for decades.

The net effect of the overturning of Roe is that in a number of states abortions almost beginning at conception will be outlawed based on the assumption that a fertilized egg is a human being. The photo was intended to visually demonstrate using humor that literally thousands of those "human beings" were being stored in cryogenic containers.
