In all seriousness, they often interpret the Fourteenth Amendment, ratified in 1868, according to how it’s language would have been understood in 1789. I don’t even accept originalism, but at least get your era correct.

Thaddeus Stevens is the Founder of the new birth of freedom whose thoughts we should plumb if we are going to engage in such an exercise

You know, I'm sure if I'd said that the next step is for the families of rapists to be able to sue because a victim got an abortion because she got pregnant from being raped, some would say that's ridiculous, outlandish, and I'm being paranoid/hysterical.

    I give you Idaho.

Well if it isn't the consequences of his actions...what did he think would happen with his nominees/packing the court?

    1. What was the rest of the exchange.
    2. Isn't this the same woman claiming DC got its electricity from burned babies?

NOW as to why that's a complex question. Rape incest exception. What sets the bar? Accusation? Charge? Conviction? I've posted before the ridiculously low number of rapes reported let alone charged/convicted. So if conviction is the bar, seeing as how thousands of rape kits sit FOR YEARS in storage waiting to get investigated/used, kid could be in elementary school by the time she's proven it.

Health of the mother. Didn't hear it there. What sets the bar? Imminent death? Death later (cancer)? Serious bodily injury?

So as much as some want to claim an "own" there really isn't here. It's more complicated than that.

And btw I'm one of the ones who thinks Florida's abortion law with the tweak of adding some missing exceptions and maybe saying 16 weeks is a very, very good compromise and I'd be happy with that as the national codified abortion law.

Unfortunately, if the Supreme Court nullifies the right to privacy as written in the draft Roe opinion, then banning contraceptives WILL be constitutional. The Griswold vs. Connecticut decision overturned a legislatively mandated prohibition of birth control based on the court's recognition of a right to privacy.

Nullifying the right to privacy provides the constitutional basis for the prohibition of contraceptives. If the right to privacy is overturned, and if you think legislatures won't ban contraceptives, I have lake front property in the Sahara to sell you. That will happen in multiple states...book it!

Taken to the next level, what if pregnancy test become hard to obtain? For example, what if you need to provide a driver’s license and a phone number when purchasing a pregnancy test? What if it becomes a test required to be done only in a doctor’s office and the doctor has to report to a state government official the number of used tests and the results?

They can also use shopper's club cards and purchase histories to look it up if they don't go as far as license requirements. But absolutely see that in those states.

There may be a very small grain of truth to her allegation since medical waste can be burned to provide energy although even if it included aborted fetuses they would represent an extremely small percentage of the waste. As the term is used biological waste in general represents a small percentage of medical waste that's burned to generate energy. The vast majority includes non-biological waste like used PPE, plastic syringes, surgical dressings, etc..
This is one example of medical waste being used to generate energy in the UK.

Ok so if we're going there with it, I can go before Congress and testify that men hate women so much that they cut off our breasts and rip out our uteruses to power DC. Just imagine a society that hates women so much that they sever their breasts from their bodies, slice them open to rip their reproductive parts, and use them to fuel their power plants in order to get electricity for their evil works.

Versus - product from surgeries are an example of biological waste that makes up the small portion of medical waste that is incinerated.

Both say the same thing. But both are NOT the same thing. And we all know why she said what she said how she said it.

That was a bait clip, not substantive, not honest. Representative Raskin is still in Congress and still has a very solid career. The reason they cut that off is because his response was pretty standard for one of two reasons. First, he may have been at the end of his time and his field of questions. Second, whenever a witness tries to take over the examination by asking their own substantive question, as opposed to something just for clarification, the representative will almost always refuse to get into the exchange, unless it's a planned exchange with a friendly witness. He didn't refuse to answer because she somehow trapped him and ended his career.

I don't know the woman directly. She may be brilliant, but her Congressional testimony was absolutely idiotic. She's probably trying to raise money off of creating clips like that, but substantively, she made no point.
