It looks like he has run the 100 once. I won’t take any stock in a single 100 time. A lack of experience getting out of the blocks could explain a single bad 100 time. I’m guessing if the coaches gave him a committable offer this early they are sold on him.
Not gonna sugar coat my opinion. After watching the tape that was put in this thread and reading through the thread, this looks like a ULL take or what should be a PWO for Florida. With that said, welcome to Gator Nation Tyree and I would love nothing more than for you prove me wrong.
Yeah he could have stumbled badly…or his coach told him “you aren’t a 100m runner,” and never put him in the event again. FWIW lack of experience out the block doesn’t get you 12.76 (unless he did in fact stumble). I can’t stress enough how slow of a time that is. Doesn’t mean he can’t play football (though I have doubts that it should be here) just saying speed is not his strong suit.
I guess if Bama offered him , people would be complaining we let one get away. I have no idea how good the kid is, but he was rated in the top 12 at the UA camp. I also know someone who actually goes and watches these kids and he is very high on TP. Time will tell. I suspect UF will have a few 3* s in the class. If it's all 3* s then we should be concerned. That said, this kid may not remain a 3* for long.
If he's really 6'2, he moves really well for that height. No top end speed, but he's got some good cutting ability for a guy his size. Plus, I like the aggression. The looks like he can play some ball. He's better than some we've signed in the past.
I agree a bad start would not account for that time. As I said his tape doesn’t reflect a 4.5 40 but it also doesn’t indicate he is as slow as 12.76. For some perspective… every high school girl that competed at the Florida Relays this year ran a faster time.
CBN has had a who's who of talent on campus the last month. I'm pretty sure he knows talent when he sees it and doubt he would settle for someone who doesn't belong when there's so much interest from elite players right now. Obviously he seen something he likes from the kid.
I read somewhere he was clocked at 20.5 miles per hour in a practice. That is not super fast, but it is fast enough if you are good in other areas.
Not over the moon with the take, but he's solid in my book. I think we're going to take quite a few WR's this cycle because when you examine the current WR's on the roster, they all seem do the same darn thing and have the same skillset. Does his film scream future AA and first round pick? No, but he seems like a cagey/crafty dude and those dudes aren't easy to find. We'll see how his senior year plays out and how he preforms at camps
as a (sad) jets fan, he reminds me of jericho cotchery. Not fast but kinda slippery. The type of dude who just always finds a way to get open and haul it in on 3rd down.
I agree. Looks like Napier is out in the front on this kid before P5 programs get involved and he is inevitably moved up to 4 stars. I'm sure there is a reasonable explanation for the slow 100 time.
Food for thought: Kadarius Toney, Blount, Athlete Trent Whittemore, Florida, Wide Receiver Jonathan Greenard, Hiram, Outside Linebacker
Definitely would like to see more camp insights on gim this coming summer. I will add this to gis stats from this past year In my initial post I posed the potential player profile similarities to Toney. Since then I’ve continued looking into Patterson, and his play at Eustis high school. Last year as a team, Eustis schedule ranked 503rd out of 550+ Florida high schools……so Eustis was seeing basically bottom of the barrel competition, as Patterson put together his 1000 yard receiving yard season. Wanted to see if he was utilized in the wildcat, as elusive athletic WR’s in high school tend to be used that way……Patterson had not 1 carry last year? Noticed too, that he was getting thrown to an awful lot on bubble screen plays, would be interested to break down where on the playing field he is being thrown to….. Remember Eustis wasn’t facing quality competition last year, infact despite its 7-3 record the team failed to even qualify for the FHSAA playoffs…..because the The fhsaa used a RPI rating system to determine playoff teams beyond district champs. I can see him eventually not being part of the 2023 class…..and would really like to see more evaluation on him from more camps……
I might argue if you want to see him in wildcat, you should also be pleased to see bubble screens....they are both methods of getting an athlete a ball to make plays. His hudl reflects a lot of bubble screens, but also a variety of routes. Rumor is he might be forced to play QB next year. His last camp report was very impressive. Will be interesting to see if he maintains and continues to rise up the charts. My guess is he ends up a 4 star if summer camps are impressive, but next fall may be tough if they have no QB
Patterson looked good on those bubble screens, some nice stop-and-start and some crafty zig-zagging. Showed a nice short distance burst. I was encouraged reading about his performance at the ESPN Elite 300 Underclassman camp. Got three or four more WR ships to give so no worried here.
