Same discussion could have been had about football 6 months ago. I know basketball is at a different level, but I think SS, the athletic department and the administration showed with the hiring of Coach Napier that where there's a will, there's a way at UF. If that same (relative) commitment is made to basketball, UF would not have any trouble finding a great coach. Like with Coach Napier, UF will have to put its money where its mouth is if it truly wants to compete in basketball. Can it? Of course. Will it? Only time will tell.

I'm pretty sure there are some well healed Basketball Boosters. Assuming there are(and there are)- it came out during the FBI Investigation into college hoops that the going rate for 5* hoops recruits was $100-$150K. If there's been a little inflation in the market, let's call it 150-200K.

This is not football with 100 scholarships-since it's legal to pay players, why isn't UF going out and getting 2-3 5* star kids a year, especially if it brings wins, notoriety, and excitement back to the game formerly known as Billy Ball. Would someone more knowledgeable than me explain to me why we as Gator fans/boosters aren't already telling Coach we have the Cash flow-now you go get us the Jimmy's & Joe's.

Larry Brown is an assistant at Memphis and a really good coach. He won both an NCAA championship and an NBA championship as a head coach.

Would you want him as a new Gator head coach?

50K students on campus and Gville is a decent size city. B ball failures have nothing to do with your second paragraph. In fact that's becoming an old tired argument.
    Agree with your first paragraph.

"A lot of that is a failing of a string of gutless, money-grubbing university presidents. The U of F is a land-grant institution, founded to serve the citizens of Florida first. It's now more interested in bringing in out-of-state and foreign students in order to charge more for tuition."

There are places around the US where that is happening but not at UF or other SUS universities in the state. The state mandates a minimum percentage of Florida residents who can be admitted to the undergraduate programs.

Yeah I’m not sure where the idea has come from that UF is full of out state students, but the undergrad population is something like 92% Floridians.

Don't let Mike White's mediocrity fool you. This is probably the 2nd or 3rd best job in the SEC.

Florida is the second best job in the conference. We should be paying as such and coaches should be excited given the resources including elite talent available to recruit.

Probably a 3-5 top SEC coaching destination. i dont know. CMW has run the program straight into the predictable ground. He has had PLENTY of chances to become a great Gator coach and it just never came to be. I wish him well when he is dismissed.
