If he put his hands on a male officer in that manner I'd react the same. There's a flipping video so other than the union hoping it goes away/the jerk leaves on his own, don't get what they're waiting for.

Good on her for interfering & trying to deescalate!

I'm legally blind in one eye. My dad calls me Mr. Magoo because I can't see anything. I can't read the E on the eye chart. Even I can see he's got his hand on her neck, fingers wrapped...hence, choke.

Did I say anything different. I simply said when a woman decides to wear a gun and a badge she has sort of given up the oh I am a frail weakling don't touch me line.

I don’t disagree with this, but I don’t see what relevance it has here?

There is the relevance. My first mention was a direct answer to a quote of a post by coop.

What exactly is your position here? Should he be fired for assaulting another cop or not? Seems like you are defending the guy because she had a gun, too ... which is a pretty stupid case to make. No other occupation would put up with treating a co-worker like that, so why is this cop getting the "desk duty" treatment, is the question.

When are you guys going to learn to read. My very first sentence on the subject was "I'm not defending him but". The only thing I have defended since is my statement.

As soon as you see the “I’m not defending the male cop, but…” you already know you’re about to read some bs. Some of these folks feel the need to always take up for scumbag cops.

I apologize- it made it seem like you were implying people were upset because "she's a girl". Hence my statement.

It’s confusing because I can’t see where she, or anyone else, claimed she was weak and frail … seems like the only reason to inject that sort of strawman is to defend the guy … as in, “it was a fair fight”, when in fact, the point is he shouldn’t have attacked her, not whether or not she capable of defending herself.

But just to add to that, two coworkers getting into a physical altercation is bad … but a male coworker grabbing a female coworker by the neck is exceptionally disgusting to me. And don’t play it off as “but she had a gun and badge”, because he has a gun and badge, too.

I'm sorry I don't agree with you, he didn't choke her, but he had no business putting his hands on her and if he lost his job over it, well that's on him he should have known better

It doesn't matter if it's male or female. He wasn't attempting to control a perp, he lost his cool and and physically assaulted a co-worker! That's a criminal act, caught on video so no "he said - she said". It wouldn't be acceptable if he did that to some rando witness on the street either. At minimum he should be fired, esp as he unsurprisingly has a "history".

    You are arguing semantics here.

He went for the neck for a reason, to control her and push her back more easily. I'm not sure "but he didn't try to strangle her" is a great hill to die on.

They will take up for scumbag cops but are ok beating good cops getting in the way of an attempted violent takeover of the US capital.

Interesting how that works, eh? It's like they pick and choose when to pretend to care about police officers.

Hopefully the guy getting desk duty is just the first step to him getting shit canned. He's on camera assaulting a co worker (and he did it because she challenged him) and that's that. No excuses. Wish there was more with the arrest of the perp, probably more bad behavior by this guy and the other officer finally had to step in.

I'll let the investigation run its course. More disconcerting to me is the threat to use pepper spray when the accused was already subdued in the back of the car. Audio is really needed to figure out what happened and why the female jumped into action when she had no real vantage point of what was going on. He definitely reacted poorly and unprofessionally in the heat of the moment, no doubt about that, but to call it a choke is a bit of sensationalism.

He put his hands on her neck (a very vulnerable place) and kept them there to push her several steps backward, thus exerting pressure. A "choke hold," doesn't even use hands. Not eye-popping, tongue-protruding, turning blue strangling, but I think choke applies here. His actions are a disgrace to the uniform.

Sorry guys once again I am not defending him but here is where I have to step in again. Yes he put his hands on her but put yourself in the situation where you are struggling with a suspect and someone tugs on your gunbelt. I am just saying you guys are doing a lot of speculating without a lot of clear evidence. Yes we have video of him pushing her away and putting his hand on her throat. We also have video of her tugging on his gunbelt. Other than that we don't know much of what went on. Grabbing an officers gunbelt from behind is not a real smart thing to do.
