A police sergeant in Florida has been placed on desk duty after video showed him assaulting a fellow officer who was trying to de-escalate a man's arrest. The body cam video shows Sunrise police Sgt. Christopher Pullease threatening the suspect with pepper spray, and engaging in a verbal altercation with him, after he'd already been taken into custody and placed in the back of a patrol car.

After a 28-year-old female officer grabs Pullease by the back of his belt and tries to pull him away, he turns around and briefly puts his hand around her throat, before grabbing her by the vest and pushing her against another patrol car. Pullease then returns to the patrol car where the suspect is detained, opening and closing the door, before pointing his finger at the female officer and walking away.

The 46-year-old Pullease, a 21-year veteran of the force, was assigned to desk duty on Nov. 25 after the department launched an internal affairs investigation of the incident.
Sunrise Police Chief Anthony Rosa said Pullease's behavior was "disgusting," adding that "the video speaks for itself.”

Calling Pullease's actions toward the suspect "inappropriate and unprofessional," Rosa commended the female officer, who has been on the force for only two-and-a-half years, for her efforts to de-escalate. “I’m very proud of this police officer," Rosa said. "She took some definitive action. I can only imagine what she must be feeling. She’s a newer officer, and he’s a very senior sergeant.” Pullease had been cleared of two previous allegations of excessive force, according to Channel 7.

Only the young female officer had the courage to stop this abusive guy from brutalizing a suspect, while everyone else just stood around. I'm guessing he has a pattern of this behavior and being senior, they didn't feel empowered to call him out. Much props to her for stepping in and attempting to deescalate the situation.

We need more cops who are willing to stand up to the bullies in their ranks. Good for her.

And to think the violent a-hole only got relegated to desk duty. Most people would get fired on the spot if they physically attacked a female coworker.

I hope that this is a union thing. They can't fire him immediately. My guess is he never is allowed on the streets again and will retire with a full pension.

Most unions do aggressively defend due process protections, which I’m not against. The issue is if they actually back this guy, rather than simply ensure due process. Too often it seems the former, rather than the latter.

Really, not only should firing this a-hole be a no brainer. He should be charged with assaulting a police officer!

I am not disagreeing with you. To often though it seems that unions, especially public unions, seem to protect the bad apples just as strongly as they protect the good apples.

You’re probably right. The male brotherhood will make her life miserable, I suspect.

Woke female cops. Back in the day you could just kick and pepper spray a handcuffed loser for being a criminal. What is this country coming to?

You’re correct, in cases like this the unions almost always help the person out the door, getting them to resign, which will probably be the case with this sergeant.

Maybe not. This cat seems like a bully so the other cops may be glad to see him go.

I was thinking the same thing ... she'll be run out of the department before he is. Bad cops are worse than criminals.

I don't condone him putting his hands on any officer, but he's not choking her. He is guilty of putting his hands on her

Not defending his actions at all but I think when a woman puts on a badge, a gun, a taser, a can of mace and a night stick she loses the protection of being a woman. She is just like any other officer.
