Thinking about taking my classic Sony TC-765 reel to reel in for a good cleaning. I have not used it for years so I am sure that the lube is now "chunky". Everything I recorded was using dbx noise reduction and I still have the compander. Lots of 10 inch Maxell reels and bought a bunch of 10 inch BASF reels for cheap from Harmons when they closed. Maybe $2 a reel. Now worth a hell of a lot more.
Since this is the Florida/Georgia football game weekend we have Fest in Gainesville, an annual puck rock gathering. It actually should be in Michigan where ? and the Mysterians, MC5 and the Stooges gave birth to the musical genre where it kind of caught on, but I always thought that Link Wray deserved a lot of credit with "Rumble" as the true musician that started it all. Raw power and not great technical musicianship and made the adults afraid. Sounds like punk to me. That song was banned on many radio stations. I love that Tarantino highlighted the song in Pulp Fiction. Since very few people of my age actually will attend Fest most of them will either think that The Sex Pistols or the Ramones started the genre. Some might say the Velvet Underground and think they are hip. But it is much older.
My wife just bought me a great album on vinyl: Modern Sounds in Country and Western Music by Ray Charles.
My son was humming a song and asked me what it was. I had played it for him a couple of weeks ago and he really liked it.
