    Florida Volleyball Announces Scrimmage, Fan Day

    The Gators will host an Orange & Blue scrimmage at 3 p.m. on Aug. 21.
    GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Florida volleyball fans, University of Florida students and the Gainesville community can see the 2021 Gators in action for the first time on Aug. 21 as they host an Orange & Blue scrimmage at Exactech Arena in the Stephen C. O'Connell Center.
    Admission is free and doors open at 2 p.m., with first serve slated for 3 p.m. Seating will all be general admission and there will be games and activities in the atrium.
    As per UF guidelines, masks are strongly encouraged inside Exactech Arena at the Stephen C. O'Connell Center.
    UF plays 14 home matches this fall, three of which are against opponents who finished the 2020-21 campaign ranked in the AVCA Top-25 poll – Minnesota, Baylor (x2).

    Interesting how Mary couched that number in terms of "the program" and not specifically the players. 80% of a 13 player roster = 10.4 which raises the question, have they actually hit the 80% threshold for the players? I seriously doubt the support staff is pulling the numbers down as if that was the case I am willing to bet Mary would be having conversations with the culprits about looking into alternative employment opportunities. No way she would be jeopardizing match forfeiture due to staff noncompliance. If my read on this is correct there appears to be a few more players that need to get with the program as of yesterday.

    Gators Sweep Dons to Start 2021 Campaign

    Florida hit .491 in the match to secure the fifth-straight season opener win

    SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The sixth-ranked Florida volleyball team started the 2021 campaign in the win column after sweeping San Francisco in the opening game of the Hornet Invitational.
    Florida took the first set of the 2021 campaign handily, grabbing the 25-10 victory. The Gators kept it rolling in the second set, claiming the 25-12 victory before closing out the match with a 25-12 win in the final frame.
    With this victory, Florida has now won 29 season openers, including five-straight.
    The Gators tallied 35 kills in the sweep, led by nine from T’ara Ceasar. In her Gator debut, Merritt Beason posted eight kills, while Thayer Hall, Marlie Monserez and Sofia Victoria each recorded four apiece in the match.
    In her collegiate debut, Gabrielle Essix added three kills and a block.
    Six players hit over .400 in the match: Beason (8-0-12, .667), Ceasar (9-3-15, .400), Lauren Forte (1-0-2, .500), Hall (4-0-6, .667), Monserez (4-0-5, .800) and Nnedi Okammor (2-0-2, 1.000).
    Monserez captained Florida’s offense to a .491 clip on the evening and dished out 25 assists in the three-setter.
    The Gators held the Dons to a -.041 clip in the match, the lowest clip for an opponent since Sept. 27, 2018 against Auburn (-.041). Florida posted six blocks at the net, led by two apiece from Okammor and Beason.
    Monserez paced the backcourt defense with a team-high eight digs, followed by five apiece from libero Elli McKissock and Hall. Ceasar and Beason both notched four digs of their own on the night.
    The Gators are back in action Saturday, taking on UC Davis and Sacramento State to close out the Hornet Invitational. Florida will face the Aggies at 1 p.m. ET, before taking on the host Hornets at 10 p.m.

    How It Happened
    • The Gators absolutely dominated the first set, jumping out to the early 7-0 lead behind the serves of Hall. Florida kept the Dons at bay, taking an 11-point lead at the 18-7 mark behind a stellar .667 hitting percentage through the first third. The Gators continued to grow their lead, closing out the frame on a 7-3 run to claim the first set of the 2021 campaign.
      • Florida hit an astounding .714 in the first set, led by five kills from Ceasar. Beason added four in her first collegiate set, followed by from three Hall. The Gators held San Francisco to a -.045 clip and just five kills in the frame.
    • With the set tied 1-1, the Gators exploded on a 9-3 run to take the six-point lead at 10-4. Florida held control the rest of the frame, taking an 11-point lead at 21-11 behind a service run from McKissock. UF closed the second set with a 4-1 run to go up 2-0 in the match.
      • The Gators hit .375 in the second frame, while holding the Dons to -.037 clip. Ceasar once again led the offense in the second set, recording two kills, while six Gators each recorded one kill apiece.
    • UF never trailed in the first two sets and that streak was kept alive in the third, with the Gators jumping out to a 12-4 lead behind the service runs of Victoria and Ceasar. San Francisco would not get closer than nine points the rest of the way, with Florida closing out the set, 25-12.
      • The Gators closed out the match with .350 hitting percentage, all while holding the Dons to a -.042 clip. Beason posted a team-best three kills in the frame, while Essix, Ceasar and Victoria each recorded two.
    Notables
    • Florida held San Francisco to a -.041 clip in the match – the last time the Gators held an opponent to a negative hitting percentage was 9/27/18 against Auburn (-.041)
    • The Gators hit .491 in the match – the last time Florida hit between .400-.499 was 1/29/21 against Ole Miss (.431)
    • Merritt Beason earned the start on the right side in her first collegiate match, posting eight kills, four digs, two blocks and one service ace
    • Gabrielle Essix posted three kills and a block in her collegiate debut
    • Elli McKissock recorded a career-high three service aces in the match, besting her previous mark of two (four times)
    • Prior to the match, Sofia Victoria had not recorded a service ace in her career, but against San Francisco she notched three

    Wise Wins 900th at Florida; Gators Top UC Davis in Three Sets
    Gators notch 10.0 blocks in the match to secure the victory

    SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The sixth-ranked Florida volleyball team grabbed its second sweep in as many matches after topping UC Davis in straight-sets on Saturday afternoon.

    Florida won a tight battle in the first set, taking the frame 25-21, then followed with a statement 25-11 victory in the second. The Gators closed out the match with a 25-18 win in the final set.

    With the win, Mary Wise claimed her 900th victory at the University of Florida. She is just the second female coach in Division I history to reach 900 wins at a single school and she currently sits at 981 wins in her career overall.

    Thayer Hall led the offensive attack for the Gators, posting 11 kills on the morning. Merritt Beason followed with nine kills of her own, while T'ara Ceasar and Marlie Monserez posted seven apiece in the match.

    Middle blockers Lauren Forte and Lauren Dooley each added five kills of their own in the three-setter.

    Marlie Monserez led the Gators to a .352 clip in the match, dishing out 29 assists.

    Florida was dominate at the net, posting 10.0 blocks. Forte registered a team-high eight blocks in the match, a Florida career-best for the redshirt senior. Ceasar added three blocks, while Beason posted two from the right side.

    Elli McKissock recorded nine digs to lead the backcourt defense, followed by eight apiece from Monserez and Hall.

    The Gators close out the Hornet Invitational against Sacramento State at 10 p.m. ET. The match is slated to air on ESPN+.

    How It Happened
    • The first set was a back-and-forth affair, with neither team holding more than a three-point lead through the first third. The Gators pulled ahead four at 12-8, but the Aggies dug themselves out of the hole, knotting the set at 14-all. Once again, Florida created some distance, taking the three-point lead at 17-14, forcing a UC Davis timeout. The Aggies battled their way back, tying the frame at 17-17, this time forcing Florida to utilize its first timeout. UC Davis went ahead 18-17 out of the break, but Florida closed out on a 7-4 run to secure the frame.
      • The Gators hit .293 in the first set, led by six kills from Hall. Dooley added four kills of her own in the first frame, followed by three apiece from Beason and Monserez.
    • With the second set tied 4-4, the Gators strung together a 6-2 run to force a UC Davis timeout at the 10-6 mark. Florida continued to build its lead, pulling ahead seven at 16-9 to cause the Aggies to use their final timeout. Out of the break, the Gators closed out on a 9-2 run behind a strong service run from Ceasar to go up 2-0 in the match.
      • Florida hit .435 in the second frame, while holding the Aggies to a -.120 clip. Beason posted a team-best four kills in the set, while Ceasar added three.
    • UC Davis took the early 7-3 lead in the third set, forcing the Gators to use their first timeout. Florida pulled its way out of the hole, knotting the third set at 8-8. UF then put together a 10-4 run to take the 18-12 advantage late in the frame. The Aggies pulled back to within three at 21-18, but Florida ended the threat with a 4-0 run to end the match.
      • UF hit .370 in the final frame, led by four kills from Hall. Forte and Beason each added three in the final set.
    Notables
    • Wise won her 900th match with the University of Florida today, bringing her to 981 in her career overall
      • She is just the second female coach in Division I history to reach 900 wins at a single school (Karen Chisum, Texas State)
      • There is only one other active Division I head coach that has crossed the 900-win threshold at one school (Russ Rose, Penn State)
