i watched both of these guys last night in the NBA Summer league. Both of them started (for Charlotte and Oklahoma City, respectively). Scottie looked like the best defender on the court even though he was playing against some veteran NBA players, including including Mudiay, Faried and Beasley. However, he looked like his old Gator self on offense. He missed two open 3's and one tough inside drive. He did score on a nice drive. Scottie played 19 minutes, scored 2 points on 1 for 4 shooting, had 1 assist, 1 steal, 1 block and 3 turnovers.

Tre did not have a good game. He scored 6 points on 3-14 shooting, including 0-3 from 3. He had 3 rebounds, 0 assists, 1 steal, 1 block and 2 turnovers in 26 minutes of play. I liked his aggressiveness and thought that some of his missed driving shots could have gone in.

I think Tre’s going to be a good NBA player. I also won’t be surprised if he puts up some pretty terrible shooting numbers as a rookie.

Those were their first games as professionals. We shouldn't try to garner much from that. Think of the nerves, the higher level of competition, the lack of any meaningful team practices. These games mean very little. The next games will be more telling.

Scottie was not suited up for the game today against Sacramento. He rolled an ankle yesterday, but he came back into the game at some point. The ankle must have swollen up post-game.

Tre can get better. Scottie is a defense only player. The current version of the NBA requires at least one kind of offensive move that will work. He has a LONG ways to go. Scottie Wilbekin is much more ready than him.

Scottie played very well yesterday. The 2nd period was the only period in which he got any touches, and he got several minutes at the point during that period. He had 10 points and 4 assists. He was 4-5 from the field, including 2-2 from the 3-point line. He also signed a 2-way contract with Charlotte, which means that he will be paid $462,500 and will be playing part of the time in the NBA this coming season. I have heard nothing about why Tre left the summer league for personal reasons. Hopefully, he and his family are okay.

Wow, that's like the worst play and reaction ever. "What? What'd I do?"

That kind of oblivious, lazy pass was epidemic on our team last season. And not just by Scottie.

Just wow to the Scottie Lewis inbound play.
I'm starting to wonder if some of the problems we had last year stemmed from this kind of attitude.

I don't know if I’ve ever seen that before in my life, especially at that point in the game. Very odd

To be fair, he had some really nice plays. Everyone makes bad passes. Even really good players make a careless play here and there.

Even though I’ve been critical of him from time to time, I actually think Scottie always had a great attitude and high potential. He was in his own head last year and played too passive. I see an NBA player when I look at him now, believe it or not. He hit two nice threes and some some high skill layups. Made a few outstanding passes. Great defense and hustle.

Scottie's attitude is outstanding. He has been the hardest working player on the floor in each summer league game that I have watched him play in. He made a careless play at the end of the game. He threw the ball in bounds without making sure that the player near him was his teammate. It was a terrible play. It had nothing to do with the way the Gators played last season.

Well something's been going on the last 2 years. Chemistry has not been good as I understand it.
Usually when talent underperforms its level, there's a reason. It usually comes down to a player or 2 or 3 and their attitude.
Just like when talent overperforms its level, there's a reason. It usually comes down to a player or 2 or 3 and their attitude. (See our 06-07 teams.)

Would you say Scottie was the "hardest working player on the floor" during his time at Florida??

I don't buy it at all that underperforming usually comes down to a player or 2 or 3 and their attitude. Scottie was a solid, but not great player as a freshman at UF. His game deteriorated as a sophomore. A a freshman, he usually was on the floor with Nembhard, KJ, Locke and Blackshear. Nembhard was a very good point guard even though, under Mike White's system, he controlled the ball too much in his sophomore year. The other guys were solid team players who moved the ball. Scottie fit in pretty well with those guys, even though they had a surprisingly average season. As a sophomore, Scottie started out very well with 8, 14, 10, 19, 16 and 17 points in his first 6 games before things deteriorated. The difference, IMO, was that after KJ went down, the team evolved into one that had 3 ball-dominant players in Appleby, Mann and Castleton and that negatively affected the other players. That, to me, is coaching rather than player attitude. As to whether Casey was the hardest working player on the team, I would say yes when it came to the defensive side of the game. If you don't think that Casey's development was stunted at UF, you might want to think about the fact that, after a somewhat mediocre sophomore year at UF, he has made an NBA team.

Lewis was a second round draft pick based on potential only. He showed little improvement at UF and if he he continues on that path in the NBA, he will have a short career. He played 22 minutes per game in the summer league and averaged six points and just under three rebounds. Mediocre at best but by getting drafted and signing the two-way deal, Lewis at least has a shot and the rest is now up to him.

One more thing…that terrible inbounds pass from Lewis can’t be a surprise to any Gator fan who watched the kid play the last couple years.

It’s great to hear the continued negativity about this kid from gator fans. Scotty played very well in the last game. He has only played three professional basketball games, and he already has significantly improved. That pass he made at the end of the last game was something that did not happen at all in his two years at Florida.

I remember a rebound that came to him On the base line at the end of a game where we had a lead and he immediately took a shot that he missed.

Scottie led his team in scoring with 16 points, had 3 blocks and was 1 for 1 from 3 last night. He also had 6 turnovers and his team was -18 when he was in the game. Carelessness with the ball continues to plague him.
