Federal prosecutors are seeking to revoke the pre-trial release of a former police officer charged in the Jan. 6 Capitol insurrection, after he purchased 34 guns. Investigators also found a partially assembled pipe bomb at his home.

Thomas Robertson, a former police officer in Rocky Mount, Va., was ordered by a judge not to possess guns following his arrest on several charges stemming from the insurrection, including felony disruption of an official proceeding and misdemeanor disorderly conduct in a restricted building. Robertson and another Rocky Mount officer, Jacob Fracker, were fired in the wake of their arrests after they posted photos of themselves inside the Capitol on social media.

Prosecutors filed a motion to revoke Robertson's release on Wednesday, after FBI agents served a search warrant at his home, where they found the pipe bomb inside a box labeled "booby trap" in addition to numerous boxes of ammunition. Authorities also tracked online gun purchases made by Robertson, who was allegedly storing his arsenal at a local firearms dealership.

Pelosi says Liz Cheney will serve on committee that will investigate January 6 insurrection

(CNN)House Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced Thursday she was appointing Republican Rep. Liz Cheney to the new select committee to investigate the January 6 attack on the US Capitol, placing one of former President Donald Trump's most vocal House Republican critics on the panel likely to investigate his role in the lead-up to the insurrection.

"We are very honored and proud she has agreed to serve on the committee," Pelosi said at a news conference on Thursday.

Pelosi announced that the committee will be chaired by Rep. Bennie Thompson, a Mississippi Democrat and chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee, which has already been probing the January 6 Capitol riots. But Pelosi's decision to name Cheney among her eight selections for the select committee underscored the speaker's desire for the investigation into January 6 to have a bipartisan imprimatur amid Republican attacks that the endeavor is simply an effort to score political points against Trump.

 

In his defense, that guy is a boob.

 

In a brief court hearing, Assistant U.S. Attorney Patrick Scruggs asked that Perkins be held in jail pending trial, noting that he is charged with a crime of violence. The prosecutor said Perkins is accused of taking a flag pole and thrusting it at a police officer before using it to beat the officer over the head and back.

“He’s likely facing at least two to three years in prison,” Scruggs said.

Several family members who packed courtroom benches gasped.


Perkins remained in custody. The judge told him he can discuss with his appointed attorney, whether to file a formal request for release on bond.

“He’s a good man,” a man said from the gallery.

“I didn’t ask for comment from spectators,” the judge said.

I watched the new york times documentary that they made about the 6th. Really is enlightening about how it all went down. Should watch to get a timeline understanding as they pieced so much video together in correct time sequence. Eye opening to say the least. Not organized my ass

 

In a different reality, they are just tourists.

 

I know too many who exist in that (un)reality. It's made things tough on my family (not just immediate).

 

Here's a look at the steps that rightwing media, particularly Fox, has taken to excuse or defend the attack on the US Capitol and the election:
1. It was really just a protest -

2. They weren't Trump supporters.

3. There was no insurrection.

4. It was really the FBI. That's who did it.
