Tonight I’ll be grilling bone-in country cut ribs indirect over cherry wood smoke. Yep, Pat’s Homade on the last two turns.

Cleaning out some leftover vegetables with green beans and new potatoes, and zipper peas involved. Ms. Jan will thin slice some more yellow squash like she did the other night in the air fryer.

Very hot today with a pretty good afternoon thunderstorm to make it hot and muggy. But we all know that will be helped with your choice of favorite adult libations.

I am sorry for bring up Vietnam war chit here. Some of us old guys still have issues. I think that I always will.

I feel like I got out easy and never had to serve and have some guilt. Just luck of the draft lotto. I knew guys that didn't come back.

Pork and mustard greens soup with ginger, scallions, fish sauce, soy sauce, Sichuan pepper corns, garlic, red pepper flakes and rice noodles. Salt and pepper to taste.

Sichuan pepper corns are kind of weird. They are not hot on the Scoville scale and not really peppercorns at all. IIRC they are seeds from an Asian ash tree. But they have this mouth numbing effect that I like and other people dislike.

Tomorrow the plan is chopped salad.

Got a nice rain earlier - first in quite a while. Really cooled things off. Man, we needed that. About to get clobbered now with a nasty cell, but along with it more rain.

Had steak today for the first time in about a month - chuck eyes - tasted great! Also I mentioned earlier about potato chips and broken pieces. I finally found that getting them in a 1 oz. bag virtually eliminated the broken chip/too small to handle syndrome. The trick is to find them at a decent price. I'm pretty much done buying from stores in the larger size bag.

I don't consider myself a big eater of potato chips - or other snacks. Like anyone else - I want as much quality in my dining experience as possible. I don't think as a consumer that's too much to ask.

Did anyone else watch the French Open men's final this morning on NBC? What a freaking battle! Djokovic was just ridiculous with his mental game. That was just crazy.....

The kitchen is closed tonight as we’ve decided that we are hungry for pizza pie.

Fat John’s Pizzeria it is! Ice cold longnecks and chilled wine are helping us keep these non-Gators SuperRegionals in perspective.;)

The soup last night was killer. I was hoping there was some leftover for lunch, but no dice.

Tonight is an experiment. I made a "pesto" with Thai basil, peanuts, sugar, red pepper flakes, sesame oil, soy sauce, fish sauce, rice wine vinegar, and garlic. I will boil some shrimp and cook rice noodles to go with it.

I will pair that with a New Zealand sauvignon blanc.

I am sure that my son will find something else to eat but will gladly have some of the wine.

Hey Bill......you've mentioned Cobb Salad here a few times. Is there a specific recipe you use? It's just like a regular salad except you include meat and eggs, right?

    Thanks!

It’s been so hot and humid that we’ve decided on a cold plate for supper tonight.

Ms. Jan’s homemade chicken salad with Ritz crackers and a cold tray is what it will be. The cold tray will be broccoli tops, cut up cauliflower, green bell peppers, celery hearts, and baby carrots.

Got to love the ice cold longnecks and chilled wine on the back porch in the hot summertime weather.
    And shredded cheese

My MIL wanted to buy Thai take-out tonight. She likes it and feels guilty that I cook dinner most every night.

Yesterday was smoked chicken, corn on the cob, and sautéed mustard greens.

Tonight will be grilled cheese sandwiches with tomato and maybe some basil

Tonight I’ve got the night off from cooking as Ms. Jan is cooking a birthday supper for me.

We will be having her smother-fried steak and gravy & onions, fresh cream 40’s & petite butter beans with rice.

The lull before the storms this afternoon and evening as we are expecting soaking (and needed) rains from the tropical depression/storm coming in across Louisiana. Back porch ice cold longnecks and chilled wine will be available.

Can't be your birthday. I read the @gatorjjh thread about today and didn't see your name. It must have been an oversight.

But congrats and many happy returns of the day. And I hope that the tropical weather treats you OK.
