I know many dismiss anecdotal evidence but I will put it out anyway. I played golf Saturday and the guy I was riding in the cart with works in a hospital in Joplin MO and said their COVID unit and the one in the other hospital in town are both full again after being empty a month ago.

Hmmm . . . I wonder what's going on there. Perhaps it's a result of low vaccination rates. Missouri is 37th nationally with 43% of its citizens having received one shot. Oklahoma is 40th (42%) and Arkansas 44th (40%).

Here is the problem with what the CDC is doing. They are changing how they classify a hospitalization for vaccinated people yet still count hospitalizations for unvaccinated the old way. Why 2 different ways? I assume they will go back and revise the numbers for how many deaths and hospitalizations actually occurred. This isn't to say Covid is a nothing virus. It caused hundreds of thousands of deaths. Just want an honest accounting of it. Whether that means more or less, I want accuracy. It's not that hard to do.

And yet so many still refuse to get the vaccine...smdh..not feeling any pity for those hospitalized at this point as they are there by choice unless they are one of the very few breakthrough cases. No cost, no waiting for vaccine. They chose to put themselves at risk.

My sister-in-law had a good friend who had been going on about COVID-related issues (vaccine, masks, etc) being fake news. She wouldn't get a vaccine. Well she contracted COVID and 72 hours later was dead. She was in her early 50's, not overweight, or had previous health issues. Just sad and senseless. I'm assuming she'd now disagree with her previous opinions.

CDC Study Details ‘Troubling’ Increase in COVID-19 Hospitalizations in Teens
Over 200 kids aged 12-17 were likely hospitalized for COVID-19 from January to the end of March across 14 states, with over 31% admitted to an intensive care unit and nearly 5% requiring ventilator support.
    https://www.usnews.com/news/nationa...e-in-covid-19-hospitalizations-in-adolescents

Not significant...25,000,000 aged 12-17 in the US. Now, they don't give any info on which 14 states these teens were likely hospitalized for covid, of course, with 62 to ICU and 10 requiring ventilation out of roughly 7,000,000 kids? What kind of comorbidities were involved? That gets y'all worked up?

The increase in kids with covid concerns me.

This is the news that needs to get out to parents.

Imagine being a parent and you don’t get your kid vaccinated and they contact it, die or end up with permanent damage.

This was discussed earlier. It was some bs propaganda from the CDC trying to scare parents into getting their kids vaccinated.

Huh? He is advocating vaccinations. Pretty sure he is vaccinated.

Yes. And that is great. It's the guilt trip based on very obscure "what ifs" that is at issue.
My point was that as you stated, both sides use "what if" scenarios....only one side is using them to scare people to share their opinion.

NYT newsletter is about the Delta variant in the UK. Concerning, if not frightening

    How bad is it?

Relative to where Britain was in January, the recent increase in Covid cases is tiny:

By The New York Times | Sources: Government and health agencies of the United Kingdom

But there is still cause for concern. As small as it may look on that chart, new Covid cases have more than doubled over the past month, to more than 4,000 a day from about 2,000 a day.

Pandemics feed on themselves, in both directions. When new caseloads are falling, it increases the chances that they will continue to fall, because fewer newly infected people are able to spread the virus to others. When caseloads are rising, the opposite occurs.

With about 40 percent of Britons still having not received a vaccine shot, the recent increase has the potential to get significantly worse. The country is at a “pivotal moment,” as Dr. Chaand Nagpaul of the British Medical Association told the BBC.

Really? Do you really want me to link the people on this thread that are posting "what if" there are side effects arguments to advocate against vaccinating children, for example? Or using fear based what if scenarios to try to get people to support them on social issues like transgendered issues (bathrooms, sports, etc.)?

It seems like the big difference is you support one "side."

Wrong demographic to consider given the CDC's concerns. It would be more applicable to look at hospitalizations vs total infected youths and then perhaps severe cases vs hospitalizations between the two periods.

The wrong group notwithstanding, an increase from 6 to 20 with a common (and invalid) 7,000,000 population still has a z of 2.7 and a p of 0.006. That is statistically significant. I'm sure there are more appropriate test statistics than Z for small proportions but who cares... 7 million is the wrong population.

Um...I never said we didn't have "what if" positions. But we are using them to defend our stance, not try and make YOU change yours.
And what in the world do transgender issues have top do with vaxes? Talk about moving the goal posts.

No. We were talking about AzCat. He has been trying to convince people to get vaxed. None of us are trying to convince anyone NOT to. We are the ones saying, do whatever you feel comfortable with.

Yeah, I am aware that you are using what ifs to push free riderism for vaccinations in ending a global pandemic (or "defend" it as you frame it). However, you are perfectly willing to push laws based on what ifs that have harm to others when you decide you like those laws (i.e., the transgender issue). So your objection is not to the argument/method and that is a deflection because you find that an easier position to defend/attack others. You just want people to stop pointing out your defense of free riderism in less positive framing than you would prefer.

Interesting. What "freedom" have I said that transgendered people should be denied? What law have I "pushed"?
    ...or are you making assumptions?

...and I am not pushing free riderism. I am defending peoples right to chose what they get done.
My parents would likely find your take odd as I was the one that PUSHED them to GET the vaccine.

All I have ever said was that It is ok and understandable to wait for full approval of a vaccine before getting it.
I can not and will not push or make any judgement on you or anyone else for feeling differently.

What do you think free riderism is? You are gaining benefits while choosing not to help gain those benefits. Free riderism. By definition. Unless you are refusing the benefits from others being vaccinated while not adding to the benefits yourself, it is free riderism.

Meanwhile you’re afraid of giving the vaccine to your kids after it’s been safely administered to half of American adults.

My kid's grown. My beef is with the shoddy reporting, if you want to give it to your kid, knock yourself out.
