    They were not.

WHO Information Notice for IVD Users 2020/05

As I stated, they just point out that a new specimen should be tested for cases that are "weak positive results." And, again, this is not a regulatory decree in terms of how private companies run testing in the US (nor in how testing is run in other countries in which the WHO doesn't run testing).

United States Coronavirus: 25,934,924 Cases and 433,637 Deaths - Worldometer

    7-day rolling averages:
    1/15- 228,404
    1/20- 197,649
    1/25- 175,021

The six days Jan 20-25th, the average dropped by 22,628. The preceding six days, Jan 16th-20th, the average dropped 38,036. I'm not sure what kind of math it takes to say that the 20-25th had a larger drop, but I'm not good enough at math to make that work.

Your numbers (217,000 average for 6 days, Jan 1-Jan 6) don't add up. What numbers are you using? What site? Show your math.

It's hilarious that these guys seem to think that WHO pushed a button on Jan 20 and immediately all testing in the US was altered to show fewer positive results.

go to covid19 tracking, subtract the end of day numbers from dec. 31 from end of day numbers on jan.6, divide by 6 days, get 217,000 average

i admit i did not use a rolling average to get 50,000, but still a 38,000 a day drop is highly suspicious

US hospitals follow CDC guidelines, not WHO guidelines. What WHO recommends has no relevance aside from how it may influence CDC guidelines.

so if we do not follow their guidelines why in the hell are we in it wasting money, maybe trump was right to pull out of a organization whose's guidelines we do not want to follow?and if it does influence CDC guidelines as you say, lowering standards would might be what the CDC would do.

It wasn't "sudden." As pointed out, it has been going for a couple of weeks. And it has been explained: the spike from holiday travel started to peter out and while we are still sitting at a much higher level than we previously were, the rate of change in new cases has declined because of the relative lack of extensive travel and large indoor groupings.

To what do you attribute the large drop during Trump's last two weeks as president?

certainly not from WHO guideline changes, that happened on the 20th.and what drop, from covid 19 tracking, from jan.1 to jan.20 a daily average of almost 219,000, last 6 days since WHO changes 168,000 daily, again a miracle drop of 50,000 a day.

Had a nice winter storm roll through. Show Low has about 18" of snow, and more at Sunrise if you like to ski. Show Low/Pinetop is one of my favorite getaways.

The WHO publishes guidelines for all countries to use. We don't have to use them, of course, since the WHO has no regulatory powers over other countries. We do need to be a part of WHO, still, because it's where medical professionals and scientists from all countries come together to corroborate. The WHO also has the advantage of getting information from member countries before it can be widely disseminated around the globe. It's a global clearinghouse of medical data. The WHO also had a working COVID test before the US developed one, and we should have taken their offer to use it.

And the number drop is exactly what you would expect if you just tracked human interaction patterns. The virus spreads when it can. And we would expect to see a rise in COVID cases starting the week after Christmas, with another little bump the week after New Years. Numbers would then begin to drop significantly as people stopped congregating for the holidays. This would have happened regardless of whom was President.

My understanding is that we're in it mostly to influence what WHO does, not the other way around.

funny, the 3 weeks after thanksgiving the daily average was about 202,000, still almost 35,000 more than the last 6 days, people were over that holiday. some do not want to see the forest for the trees.
