I stopped lurking there 2 years ago.

We lost a few good ones. Rev12 was one.

But, we lost posters who repeatedly posted conspiracy theories like Seth Rich, argued that the hack of the Dems was good because it exposed a truth about the rigged Dem primaries (false), and regular sources not grounded in facts or reality.

The problem for society is that when people are in an echo chamber, it creates a reality for them.

A real issue for sites like that and their posters are the government algorithms that monitor for threats.

And, the government is actively looking everywhere now.

Making the site private is just an attempt to hide what is said. But once there, and read by like minded posters, it is public even on a private site.

It makes me grateful for the moderators here.

Not loony toons in an alternative reality. It is exactly how autocrats gain control. They need a large base of support.

Read a book called Hitler's Willing Executioners. It explains how support is garnered for the most extreme autocratic measures-- genocide. Necessary to these bad behaviors is popular support.

The tactics here are no different.

This has been evident since he came down that escalator in 2015 and attacked immigrants (Mexicans), instead of sensible advocacy for changes in immigration policy.

This doesn't happen instantly. Developing an autocracy takes time. It requires popular support for (and devotion to) the leader which is triggered by his ideas. These ideas are usually grievances based or populist notions and outlying. What you call "loony."

There must also be the undermining of guard rails and institutions caused by fear of losing power, toleration of corruption rewarding supporters and punishing those who stand in the way to protect those institutions, illegality, and people willing to act. This includes those in power who violate their oaths to try to aid the autocrat and those willing to take up arms for the autocrat.

In such a world, corruption of the investigative and justice process become normalized; here, lying was called a process crime and rewarded as pardons. Bill Barr outright lied about Muller's conclusions that Trump obstructed justice in at least 2 of the 10 investigated instances (his report did find sufficient evidence of the elements of the crime in 3 instances). Especially for the liars where the trail dies.

In such a world, the undisputed extortion of a foreign government by the conditioning of appropriated aid on non-monetary campaign support is excused or outright applauded.

In such a world, the incompetent bumbling of an emergency (the pandemic) is blamed on states.

In such a world, the appropriation of authorized funds for purposes of the leader are tolerated.

In such a world, there must be a set of facts (real or not) that can be used to undermine democratic practices. In this case, it is the claims of election fraud and willingness to disqualify the legitimate votes of those who did not support the leader.

The seeds of election fraud claims were sown from day 1, when the election commission was appointed. And, these seeds were made easier here by the refusal of GOP state legislatures to allow mail in votes to be counted in states before the close of polls.

And, this is who these posters are. And, Trump has been their mouth piece for years.

I have said, repeatedly, that Trump is the greatest president "they" have had since Jefferson Davis. A joke, but sardonic. Because in the minds of his supporters, that is who Trump has been for them.

And, to be clear, these people know that Joe Biden won. The claims they make are because they don't care about democratic principles when their great leader lost.

When faced with being removed from power, he called on those willing to act. With old familiar tactics-- lies.

    And, they responded.

    Like the supporters of autocrats.

The continual support and toleration of all of the foregoing led us to this "looney" point.

We watched this happen. But, the institutions ultimately pushed back and held.

And, the autocrat's supporters are now desperate.

I, and a few others, have been warning of this for years. You could see this coming.

It is only "looney' for you because it is not grounded in your reality and you live in a world of truth.

    They don't or don't care.

And, it is a complete disconnect from reality to blame the attacked for being attacked.

Or BLM who was not there and had nothing to do with what happened January 6.

If you want to know who is at fault, read my posts at 1845, 1863 and 1864. And then get up and look in the mirror and you will see one of those who are at fault.

    And why.

They could not do it without you.

Was she? I doubt it. It was just LARPing for her. Now that she has caught a charge she isn’t singing the Save America song. It’s all No Big Deal. A true believer would lead with the “I’m saving us all” angle. What is a year in jail for such a patriot? But she is “Wow, you guys are really overreacting—and BTW Big D, how about one of those pardons you’re handing out like candy?”

    Quoting the link:

Ryan said she had been “displaying my patriotism”, adding: “I listen to my president who told me to go to the Capitol.”

    =====================

She did what Trump told her to do. In her world, the seditionist attack on the capital was the right thing to do.

And, in other parts of right wing world, an violent on Congress to foment revolution, kidnap members, hang the Vice President, and stop the count of electors so the winning candidate does not become president, is comparable to the BLM protests and violence that occurred. And Congress' fault.

When Publix invites me to go to one of their stores, I don't interpret that to mean I can break into restricted areas, hang the assistant manager, rough up the bag boys and kidnap the woman at the deli counter.

They were given their marching orders. Hate to repeat myself, but they were told that it was "trial by combat" and Junior said to the members that the mob was coming for them.

Trump was maintain this view to disassociate himself from the mob, but he is stabbing the mob in the back for his own benefit, like everyone else. And like all failed autocrats.

Maybe these people will understand that they were lied to and used.

Of course in the case of a Publix insurrection there would be thousands of soccer mom's surrounding it and fully prepared to release their children on you.
