Making a chopped salad tonight. I like it all veggies, but my wife wants cheese and ham added in.

    Guess who wins this.

We are still celebrating our football team’s win over the Dawgs—tonight I’m grilling filet mignons, with baked potatoes, a fresh Romaine salad topped with vine ripe tomatoes, and freshly baked crescent rolls. W/D had whole beef tenderloins on sale this weekend for $9.99 lb. That’s just hard to turn down when the regular price here is $20.99 lb.

Low key day here today, working inside prepping what used to be our smallest bedroom that we have converted into Ms. Jan’s “closet room” for new flooring and repainting.

That makes the ice cold longnecks and chilled wine most appreciated as the day winds down.

Bill.......that W/D sale on whole beef tenderloins was only Fri-Sun. - and in this area it goes back to reg. sale price of $12.99 rest of the week.

Since I just received that huge Omaha Steaks package, I'm holding off on any more meat purchases for a bit.

My neighbor to the south hosted a wedding at their place yesterday, starting at 5pm. She invited me to stop over for a 'plate'. Mostly just wanted to let me know there'd be some noise and if it created a problem for me to let her know. It wasn't really that bad and I'm glad the rain held off for them. Tempted to stroll over after the game but decided with the cv19 thing I'd stay put, just in case.

Take my advice and stay off Swamp Gas. You'd think everyone would be happy after the win but the grumbling about 50 million things is of epic proportion. Disgusting and an embarrassment.

I never go to the football board—anything I’ve got to say about football is something that I would want to talk with our bunch about.

Smart man! We know what's really going on anyway, eh?

I had delicious French toast this morning with some of those farm eggs.....yum!

Windy and wet out so won't be working outside today.

The forecast is predicting Eta going into the Gulf and strengthening before cutting eastward across Florida. Supposed to happen before Saturday's game with Arky but seems like the forecasts are always a little behind so will be interesting to see how it plays out.

That does give one aplenty to look at (if you’re in that profession and looking to make a change). Spurrier is one of your own, high profile as a player, a Heisman Trophy winner, NC winner at his alma mater, and year in year out a consistent winner.

Just like baseball coming down to launch angles, spin rates, and such football in today’s world is largely judged by style points.......

    So sad......

Tonight I’ll be grilling bone-in country cut ribs indirect over cherry wood smoke with Pat’s Homade on the last two turns.

Inside we will have fresh pinkeye peas w/snaps and okra, fresh steamed green cabbage, and rice pilaf.

It’s been overcast all day here with a slight breeze making outside activities much more pleasant than “sticky” by the time you hear the door close behind you.

Ice cold longnecks and chilled wine will be the ticket for late afternoon and evening on our back porch.

What veggies are in season up there now. I would think collard greens and turnips. Think you got some wineries nearby too, but it's probably too late for grapes. Go by McDaniels grocery too. They have some original stuff..... all over that area of panhandle, south Ga.

We mainly enjoy turnips and mustard greens. As we’ve aged it seems like collards, while they are still great (the first time you eat them;)) seem to bring on more indigestion than either one of us are willing to tolerate.

We’re still able to get some pretty green beans from time to time. The bi-color cob corn is still sweet too. And then we also buy from Hopkins Farms to put up fresh vegetables in our freezer. We tend to prefer cream 40’s, petite butter beans, zipper peas, pink eye peas w/snaps, okra, and crowder peas.

We don’t do a whole lot of going anymore, but we do like to eat good (at least to our tastes).

    Chicken tagine tonight.

Like @74nole I prefer mustard greens over collard greens. And turnip greens are also really good. Collards are still tasty, but need a lot more cooking time.

One thing I miss this fall with the pandemic is picking up bags of boiled peanuts on the side of the road. This yankee (not a fan of the baseball team, but a former northerner) has developed a taste for them. I guess I will have to make my own.

Tonight we are going to be treated to Ms. Jan’s homemade chicken’n’dumplings. We will have sides of fresh zipper peas and okra, and I will fry cornbread.

Another overcast day here today with a little more humidity than the past few days. The ice cold longnecks and chilled wine will remain appreciated in the late afternoon and early evening.

Nowadays you have to say late afternoon rather quickly because with this dang time change it’s dark here between 4:30–4:45pm and it gets here in a hurry.

    Lurk—

If you know any of the folks that run your roadside stands that you prefer to frequent check with them and see if they can get them by the bushel bag for you.

That’s what we did and brought’em home and boiled them ourselves. We put them up in Qt. Size freezer bags. They are easy to thaw out and eat just fine. If you’re in a hurry to get them ready just put them in hot water.

Boiled peanuts are supposed to be good for those trying to watch their diet. I tried boiling some (purchased on eBay) but they didn't turn out that great, so I took the second bag I was sent and instead of trying again put them with the raw peanuts I feed to my resident squirrel who trained me to hand feed him.

I will buy again but only if they're already boiled for me.

    - yum! We have a diner here with a special every day and (I think) Wed. is their chicken and dumplings. I used to make a point to frequent them on that day, but haven't in a while. May have to tomorrow.

Speaking of chicken......I have a whole one in my slow cooker right now and will be making soup with it tomorrow.

The increased humidity was noticeable today, too. Things could always be worse though.

I watched an episode this morning of "Have Gun Will Travel" and Ken Curtis was a guest on it - his character "Monk" - very similar to "Festus" from Gunsmoke - but when he sang this song it was amazing!

(in the clip, Paladin had already had Monk cleaned up)

Peanuts are supposed to crunch not squish. When I moved to the South 45 years ago I came to love lots of the cuisine—bbq, shrimp and grits, and so on. But bawled peanuts are an abomination:(

    Lurk—

The forecasters have changed or wavered on the track of this storm ever since it got on the radar. This morning they have changed it again and are now saying it will make it’s second FL landfall in the Tampa area with a NNE path.

Unfortunately that is going to put it pushing right across/through Gainesville on it’s way to the Atlantic....Batten down the hatches boys and girls.

I agree with you on the outlook for the upcoming weekend in Gainesville. Y’all take the necessary precautions and be safe!
