I said NEW cases. Bolded it this time so you can see. You need to pay attention to details like that. On May 1, Florida's 7 day average for new cases was at about 600. As of today it is 5535. So the increase has gone up since my previous post with today's numbers included. It is now about an 820% increase in new cases since May 1.

Yes, I was looking at the 7 day average for new cases to smooth out the daily fluctuations. Suffice it to say, we see a huge increase in new cases in Florida and a huge decrease in new cases in NY. One state is doing something right and one state is doing something terribly wrong.

I didn’t realize you were looking at the 7 day average of new cases. At total cases or even daily comparisons, the numbers in Florida are awful. I think the 7 day average is the best measure. I hope the numbers the last 2 days are anomalous. What is so sad is that we just needed to stay shut in Florida for 3 more weeks and we could have reopened with few cases and testing and contact tracing. And if we as a nation committed to this, we could have tourists come here from Europe and other places. And that is a major component of Florida’s economy. The EU will ban that travel as will other places. other countries acknowledged they the initial longer shut down was necessary to get the disease under control and would have a more painful short term effect but ultimately would have a longer benefit economically. Which is what the Leaders of Greece and New Zealand said about their countries. But the view by this President was to open up now because nothing matters to him or them except November 3. And the sunbelt states followed him. He sold out the well being of the country. And, national measures were necessary and constitutionally justified by the Commerce Clause. Note my example of interstate commerce earlier on this post.

There's some good and bad. The good part is that we're still doing well with PPEs, and we've had numerous meetings and made numerous contingency plans for much worse scenarios than what we've seen here. I feel that at least on our end, we're fairly well prepared.

The bad side is that we're on average having more than double the cases in the hospital. Remdesivir is in very short supply and it's being rationed heavily. We recently attempted to upgrade our testing capacity, first with the Abbot rapid test, which turned out to be pretty unreliable so we only use it as a screening tool for asymptomatic patients who are getting surgery (intubation carries high risk of aerosolization) or for psych patients (can't get reliable history re: whether symptomatic). I believe this is the test the White House is using to test its staff. Next we used this Lyra test, which also turned out to be very unreliable. Since it's also slower than the Abbot test, we decided to stop using it altogether. In the end, testing is actually slower than a few weeks ago.

I haven't personally noticed any change in demographics or severity of cases, but that's both anecdotal and biased since I only see hospitalized patients. People here are very good about wearing masks in public indoor places. I don't ever see anyone inside stores not wearing a mask. Hopefully this means we'll have a slower growth rate and stabilize at a lower number than would be otherwise.

Thanks. Really appreciate your contributions here and the work at the hospital. This is a difficult time.

to use an old saying, new York shut the barn door after the horse left, in other words, just because they are ok now does not mean they were horrible earlier, I do not believe even now Florida's daily numbers are as high as new York's were. also, when florida passes them in total cases and deaths then we will talk, ain't gonna happen.

New York had 7 days in which their daily new cases were worse than our last two days. The last of those was April 25th.

We haven't been under 1500 daily new cases since June 10th. They haven't been over 1500 daily new cases since June 4th. Definitely moving in different directions.

US Daily Cumulative Totals - 4 pm ET

We have really increased the amount of daily testing in the US, last week we were averaging close to 550,000 test daily. So naturally were gonna see increases. They had a health care worker call into the Bob Rose show on Friday talking about all the increases in Marion County and there's currently only 1 person in ICU. Alachua County reported only 1 for last week also, That's great. Alachua County has had 12 deaths total 10 from the same long term health facility.

Not to bad considering Alachua County really never shut down completely. If I had to guess I would say 50% of Alachua County not wearing mask either.

285 deaths today, 2nd lowest since march 24.by the way, care to guess what state led the way, wait for it, New York. by the way, they had more than florida yesterday also.they have more cases, more deaths, more active cases, more cases per million population, more deaths per million population, but hey, DeSantis is doing a horrible job, do not think florida will ever come close to new York in all those categories.
