This is a nothing virus for young healthy people. Nothing more. If they wear masks when in confined spaces(grocery stores and such) there is no issue with them going back to school. You are trying to use scare tactics that the world is going to end. More people will get sick and die for sure. There is no stopping that. But the odds are so minuscule for college aged kids that it’s a non issue. I wish some of you would hold Cuomo and the other Governors who sent Covid-19+ patients Back to nursing homes to the same standards that you are doing for colleges opening back up.

You're putting words in my mouth. Do you always have to resort to sophistry to try to make a point? It's so droll.

The young are one of most dangerous vectors for this disease due to the mild symptoms.

You claim that people will get sick and die. "There is no stopping that." Consider that, perhaps, keeping the young from being facilitators of transmission is one way to limit community morbidity and mortality.

nope. You made no tangible point at all. Go stay inside and be safe. I’ll be out living my life with my family. Good luck to you.

Another unearned victory lap. Did you go to UGA?

Tangible point: Preventing young people from catching covid-19 keeps it from spreading further in the community, thereby saving lives. The only fathomable way to disagree is to assert that young people are not contagious.

This seems to be tenuous reasoning. It doesn't matter if they aren't around *really old* people themselves, since they will be around others and those others will be around really old people. The virus doesn't think or care bout how old or young someone is to be transmitted; it just moves from host to host and replicates itself and humans are the host & the vehicle, young/old, healthy/less healthy.

so your solution isn’t to go to school. That is an asinine position.

We aren’t staying home permanently until a vaccine comes. There is risk in every day life that we accept and need to accept the the risk in Coronavirus. If you don’t want to risk it stay home. Others won’t.

OR...how about keeping those in the high risk categories from coming into contact with everyone else? Young people may get it...but if they do not interact with those in the high risk categories and the folks in high risk categories take the extra precautions...then the higher risk folks should be fine as well. I think a wise Vulcan once said the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few. Covid 19 is very risky for a small % of the population. We should concentrate on protecting those that are more vulnerable but not at the total expense of everyone else.

Maybe little Johnny goes to school, unless little Johnny or anyone in his house is high risk (sibling, parent, grandparent whomever). If little Johnny can’t go to school he participates online. It’s likely his parents are not 65+. (I myself am in my 50s with young kids in pre k and elementary school so not likely parents in their 60s or older and thus in higher risk groups.

I didn’t think it would actually be an issue for any of my kids to do online school for a few month but in the final weeks, my 9 year old went from video chatting with school counselor to county psychologist as she suffered from the isolation. I prefer she and my other children go back to school in the fall. Much higher risk of issues from seasonal flu for them than Covid 19. Would there be enough teachers who are not in riskier groups or have people in their households not in risk groups that could work? I don’t know.

Life certainly comes with risk. But don't rational individuals adjust behaviors accordingly? Would you tell your son to stand out in centerfield in the middle of a nasty lightening storm...because the risk of actually getting struck is low? I seriously doubt it.

Thing is, at the outbreak of novel (animal) virus, there is going to be a lot of unknowns about what that risk truly is and understandable fear among public health experts becuase the potential for massive destruction exist. In other words, will it be, e.g., like SARS or will it be like 1918 Influenza? We now have a much better handle, and can phase in some activities., But we're not and shouldn't be basing it on individual wants or the misbelief that because young people aren't dying in the same numbers, all is okay. It's a misunderstanding of the threat.

*Did I suggest staying home permanently?

Anyway, this isn't a binary issue though your statement suggests it as such.

You are arguing about college football players playing football. It’s ok, sometimes you make an incorrect argument. Just own it and move on.

You should probably take your own advice here...

For example, do you still think saying that Texas has had declining cases is a fact?

no of course I wouldn’t have my son out in a lightning storm. Just like I’m ok with him playing CF now and has almost zero risk of having adverse affects from Covid-19. We have had 4+ months of data from around the world. If things change then reevaluate. But as of now I’m happy to be back to a semi normal.
