Again, asking those with risk factors to self quarantine still raise their risks, unless they don't come in contact with anyone. But assuming many do, like those under 65 with comorbidities and families, the more people the family members come in contact with on a daily basis, the greater the risk for the person with the comobidity. Isolating a nursing home population isn't easy, but it can be done. Isolating Grandma who lives with her kids and grandkids is another story. If the parent in this situation has diabetes, then there's two people in a household that have a greater risk.

The whole reason we have sheltered in place is to bend the curve so we don't overrun the supply of hospital beds. So far, for the most part, we've been incredibly successful! Opening up now, with no validation that there is herd immunity, and we seriously risk all we have gained. And it's possibly that in two months, we're back to sheltering in place, as cases and subsequently deaths start to rise again.

@philnotfil has it right. Test, test, and test some more. Test to see if a person has the disease and isolate. Test to see if a person has antibodies too. Start to see new cases decrease and have the ability to test and test some more, and then we can start to open things up. Otherwise, you are risking thousands of lives to potentially jumpstart an economy a few weeks earlier when recovery is going to take years either way. It just isn't a reward that's worth the risk.

Nice attempt to reframe. I wrote that they have been claiming the shut down was an effort to hurt Trump's reelection chances. This started with Trump calling the alarm over the pandemic a "democratic hoax" and has gone to where Trump has said that...

"“The media would like to see me do poorly in the election,” he said. “I think there are certain people who would like it not to open so quickly. There are certain people who would like [the economy] to do poorly because that would be very good as far as defeating me at the polls. I don't know if that's so, but I think there are people in your profession that would like that to happen. I think it's very clear.”

It's also found in the anti-Fauci sentiment that sprung up last month, which continues through today, and the other conspiracizing that goes on on the right among his supporters.

So, if they facilitate increased cases by opening 2-4 weeks early, how many businesses will open or stay open with more cases in a larger area? I believe each and every business owner will determine when they will reopen...

Some businesses have continued to operate with employees working from home...they have the greatest flexibility. The Universities and most school systems will remain closed excepting maybe those 8-10 states with minimal cases...
I wonder what % of american families are scared of being infected? What % of Americans are not concerned about being infected and just want to return to work.?
I will look for some polls...Hey, Disney is making plans for a soft opening with mitigation measures in place. That will help open some Hotels and restaurants. Universal will likely also soft open. Yes, many will go to Disney, regardless.

I think that you will see many of those working from home continue to do so for good, which is a good thing. I work from home when not traveling (which is most of the time. traveling that is) and it is the way to go.

I don't think that is catchy enough to be a hit. Do you have the rest of the lyrics?

Wow, did not see that about Disney, I read they are losing $30,000,000 a day. Crazy. I would think they would be one of the last places to open, although if any place could do it successfully it would be them. It would be a very eye opening thing to see what happens with that either way, good or bad.

Pandemic pandemonium still grips the nation, yet the DJIA continues to clock in at 9:30AM everyday, with people dying alone in an ICU right down the street. It's a Mad, Mad, Mad World.

I hope they reduce the price because from what I read they are significantly reducing their offerings.
People will be highly disappointed paying full price and only getting 50% of Disney.

But they were living with the underlying condition. They died only when they got Covid-19. You've got a conclusion (its just like the flue, and the real numbers are much lower than reported) and are striving to rearrange reality and medical standards to achieve it.

Aside from accidents/murders the vast majority of the people who die in the hospital have some sort of underlying condition. Now that I think about it, I don't think I've ever filled out a death certificate without naming a contributing condition.

NEWS 4/22/20 – Florida Task Force Discusses Disney World and Tourism Reopening Timeline Toady
    [IMG]
It’s no secret Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has been eager to figure out when statewide tourist attractions can once again begin to operate. The Governor, along with the rest of the Re-Open Florida Task Force, have been discussing potential timelines for when theme parks like Walt Disney World can reopen.

Universal Orlando Resort CEO John Sprouls said Wednesday that planning is underway for when the gates open. In a meeting on Wednesday, he told the Florida Task Force: “We’re not sure yet how we’re going to do that, but we’re looking for help from health officials to help us figure out what might be an appropriate protocol to try to minimize the possibility of any sick guests entering the parks.”

    Sprouls mentioned the following procedures:

    • Reopening the attractions in stages. First State residents, then national and international visitors.
    • Enhanced cleaning
    • Recommending guests wear masks
    • Guest and Employee temperature screenings
    • Disinfecting Ride Vehicles
    • Enhanced hygiene measures for workers at hotels, restaurants and theme parks
    • Capping attendance for the parks
    • Increased Virtual Queues
“We’re evaluating face coverings for our team members,” Sprouls said. “We’re potentially evaluating, allowing or even encouraging guests to wear face coverings as well. At least initially.”

So, no set date yet...rumors suggest maybe June 1-15...
