She owned him. It was a simple question. Will you or won't you use your authority to pay for this?

Retraction: I got him confused with Fauci. Redfield is a right-wing evangelical nut job.

I don't necessarily begrudge him. I believe from other reading that he's an honest broker. I certainly imagine he has 100x demands on his time than any human should have. I bet his range of mobility, so to speak, is deeply constrained by his political environment.

Thus, kudos to her for pushing through the noise and getting him to a place of humanity.

I wonder if he will be out of a job this time next week.

I like walking through old cemeteries and reading headstones and in nearly every cemetery there is a cluster of headstones where people (of all ages) died in 1918-1919. It must have been awful.

Katie Porter is a savage. I would hate to be the government official who hadn't done his job being questioned by her. I would just go ahead and resign.

I suspect that may be in no small part due to a shortage of test kits rather than fewer actual new cases. Not absolutely certain but I believe that suspected cases aren't counted only confirmed ones and by definition a positive test result is required to confirm a case.
Dr. Marc Siegel sounds alarm over lack of coronavirus test kits: 'We still don't have the testing'

My company's CEO just announced an official "if you can work from home, please work from home" policy through early April. We currently have an office overseas that's closed due to an employee who tested positive.

I've been working from home since 1995. I don't understand why companies are so averse to having employees working from home. It's easy to track productivity--either the work is getting done or it's not--and operating expenses plunge. Employee productivity increases. Now maybe I'm not good at math, I'm just a UF business major, but last I checked if expenses decline and productivity increases, that's a good thing. Plain simple math. Unless management are micro managers and have egos that need to be stroked.

I may have a more eye-opening example, assuming that animal responsibility billboards are accurate:

Question: If two cats start producing kittens, and those kittens reach maturity and start producing their own kittens (and none get run over or killed by coyotes, etc.), how many felines are there after nine years?

    Answer: 11 million!

If Coronavirus doesn't scare you, start thinking about cats having sex.

In some jobs, the quality of work gets better when people collaborate face-to-face. Also, communications are better face-to-face. Only ten percent of communication is the words being used. The rest is non-verbal: posture, tone, facial expressions, etc. In engineering, productivity without quality can be dangerous.

I'm just countering others who think the world is going to end, when it's not. Life will go on. Unless you are 60+, just do what the CDC recommends and you will be ok. Everybody is so freaked out about this that they are tossing common sense to the side. This isn't the 1st Pandemic and it won't be the last.
