On Saturday I smoked two chickens because it was just as much work as smoking one. I received rave reviews. The breast meat was cooked to perfection and almost too wet and without brining or injection. Next time I smoke a second chicken my wife wants to use it for making enchiladas. OK, but doesn't using chipotle with some of the adobo sauce give enough smoky flavor? I think that she wants the smoke without the heat.

    Yesterday was leftovers. Guess what.

Today it is still leftovers (two leg quarters and a carcass to be picked over for three persons), but this really is the end from the Saturday cook.

Another brutal day outside. September has always been just another summer month, for those of us in Florida.

I work outside but not as much as I used to, mostly due to going into semi-retirement. But I look at these guys in the trades working in this oppressive heat and humidity and just shake my head on how they can do it. There was a roofing crew just down the street from the property I worked at this morning and the local utilities department working on the lot behind me before I left and on and on...every day all day....much respect (and sympathy) for these warriors!

I'll be making salads again tonight here at home but before that have to run by Mom's to spray weeds and will get a take out Greek salad from Stavros for her on the way there. Still enjoying my BBQ pork from the weekend as well. I will bring some of that to Mom as well, in fact. And a bun. :)

Miss me some Stavros. We had 2 in Leesburg and I believe they are closed now. That was our family "splurge" night when I was growing up. They didnt happen very often but eating that Greek salad always takes me back to my childhood.

Being an old guy from Chicago I have fond memories of great Greek restaurants. Too bad that they have become touristy now and not as awesome as they once were. Still good, but not as wonderful as they once were.

Probably the same deal with restaurants in Tarpon Springs.

Had a nice surprise when I went to Stavros....a buddy of mine was there eating in a booth all by himself. We go way back to the early 70's related to surfing. So I sat with him for a short while and got caught up on a few things. He gave me his latest business card and on one side it has the traditional stuff and on the back it says: My Motto Is: "I'll Service ANYBODY!" with a background of a sunset and palm trees on an island. Very cool and just what I'd expect from him. The stories I could tell about him and all the adventures we had in this area over the years.....legend!!!

Then a little while ago my Mom sends me this in an email:
Enjoyed the Greek salad but I like their pizza more. Wish they delivered. Thanks for the spraying. Before you came I pulled a lot of weeds in my Mully grass. Could not get it all but I did my best. I worked hard at that so should sleep good tonight. Tonight I also had a bun with some of the barbecued meat. Very good.
    Love and hugs, Mom
She meant Muhly - not Mully.

I planted some around her big electric box on her property line. Design-wise, I like using ornamental grasses to cover things up that require access because you can still get in there without having a branch poke you in the leg or arm or wherever.

I also asked the girl at the front whether she preferred Calzones or Stromboli and she said Calzones because she like Ricotta cheese and also you can stuff more items inside a Calzone. She makes a good point.

And I made my salads for the week ahead - 6 of them! Bad news is I was out of black olives. Good news is I used Spanish olives instead. ;)

Tonight it’ll be grilling BBQ chicken halves and Hickory Hollow’s smoked venison sausage—
Sides will be fresh zipper peas with pod okra on top, deviled eggs, Dixie Lily yellow rice topped with Rotel tomatoes, and jalapeño cornbread—

Throughout this heatwave the ice cold longnecks have done their part to help beat the heat—I look for them to continue their good work today—

Will be Lake Pointe's finest dinner tonight as we have a 7PM game. On another note - they serve beer there now. Im not sure how bright of a decision that is long term but Ill be sure to take advantage of it for now. Its one thing to have a bunch of people drinking at game that they are merely fans. But its a WHOLE NUTHA thing to have a bunch of travel ball parents getting sauced while watching their kids. I may start going out there and knocking a few back and watching the show even when we arent playing. LOL

I be the umpires are like "Oh great - youre serving beer now" HAHA

"Life is Good in Gator Nation"....I like that. :)

Had a busy day and grabbed a hard boiled egg going out the door this morning along with a tumbler of this:

It's actually not bad as an alternative to the standard V8.

The hard boiled egg was also really good - sometimes just by themselves they hit the right spot.

Off thread topic, but around the burgers and dogs the Trenton Thunder won the Eastern League Championship tonight 5-2 over the Bowie Baysox taking the series 3 games to 1. Tim’s pitchers led the league in most of the stats you would want your pitchers to lead in most of the season. Congratulations to the players and coaches.

Just got home from Lake Point. Had it shoved up our butts today by a kid straight DEALING at 89 - 90. Good for our kids to see that. Caught the 4th qtr after we got home. I havent ventured over to Swamp Gas but Im sure its a blast fest. Hate if for Franks. But its next man up.

However - Lake Point has solid chicken sandwich and an ICEE machine. LOL

Hope everyone is having a great weekend.

I got out two venison backstraps and cut them up stew meat style--My large Lodge kettle is now full of seared venison, shaved Vidalia onion, cut up celery hearts, carrots and potatoes along with 2 packets of McCormick's Beef Stew Mix--the house has been smelling good since about 8:30am--All that's left to do besides the occasional stirring is to make fresh jalapeno cornbread--

As it should be, the Yeti is restocked and re-iced with MichUltra longnecks and ready to go--

This movie was on today and I watched part of it. I love the entire premise and find it inspiring.

    This part especially was great!
