Let us not forget……Napier had to COMPLETELY REBUILD THE PROGRAM. That reality seems to be forgotten in all this hand wringing. Napier, should it not go well, will have left the program in drastically better shape than the one he inherited. You can’t say that about Mullen, Mac, Urban, Champ, or Zook. So, despite the wins vs losses, the man has done a great deal of good here.
Agreed, but there will be a point of diminishing returns if he can't get over the hump. IMO, just looking at the roster, and expected OL and DL turnover it should be this year. Another meh year like last year and I think we can safely assume that's all he will ever be able to provide and UF should look to bring in a coach that can take all that talent that has been assembled and do something with it.
What are we. 6th talent wise in the sec and play a few that are ahead of us. He needs to win the ones he should win.
I seriously doubt much of that assembled talent stays if Napier is gone. He's popular and it's too easy for kids to leave. It will be starting over at ground zero again if it comes to that.
Depends on the hire. Debour lost alot when he took over and they had a few bumps but i wouldnt call it starting over .
Deboer will be on the hot seat sooner than later. I bet his ears are still ringing from the Vandy loss.
I think hes a decent coach though and they have a pile of 5* kids this time around. Id bet on them having a decent year.
I miss those days, when Bama was a laughing stock! I am ready for the "wheel of college football fortune" to spin the Gators way again. I don't think I am alone in thinking this may be the year. I really like Napier, in so many respects he would be an ideal fit for this program "IF" he can get it done on the field. I think this years group may be the team to put UF back into SEC and national honors contention. Spot the ball ............. talking season is almost over thankfully. Lets see if the Gators have the chops, err I mean "chomps" this campaign!
No. I do have a Mustang and I guess you could consider it antique since it is 30 years old, but sadly not 60 years old:
I have to disagree on that somewhat. It will result in turnover, but with paid for players now, any turnover should be able to be replaced by buying some new ones during the transition. Believe me, there might be a lot of players upset by the move that when they look at $$ and cents will decide to stay put.....and find out they enjoy winning football games too.
Had a 1976 350 V8 Chevy Camero, Orange with a Split (tan) vinyl roof and a rear trunk flip up spoiler. $6,700.00 + Tax's off the showroom floor. My pops bought it for me the end of the summer, my Jr. year. Never forget it - Told me to go to the dealership and pick out whatever I wanted. (it was a rural dealership, no corvettes on the lot, lol / although I would not have asked for one) - My reward for years of hard work on the farm and ranch. I remember driving that puppy to H.S. the first day of school my Sr. year. Great memories
Imo you may be overlooking that we get away with paying less in a lot of cases because this staff is well liked and has developed a great locker room. I would agree that too much losing would strain the atmosphere.....but if they didn't lose the team during that awful start last year then that bar may be low. I stand by the belief uf would lose a lot of talent. The portal is certainly a two way street, but I'm not confident that to available coaching options are all that appealing at present. Regardless....that would still be essentially starting over even if the portal helps
I'll bet that every guy in that HS was as jealous as hell that day. I have a humorous story about my Pops who wasn't quite as generous as yours. I started work at 15 and 1/2 and he told me to save up money and he would match me and get a set of wheels. I save up $700 and found a sweet 1971 plum-crazy Dodge Challenger convertible with a white top and interior and a 383 big block mill. it had ~70K miles on it and was $1,100. I drug my Dad down to the car lot and after a lot of hemming and hawing he decided it had too many miles on it. I was an unhappy camper. Next thing you know he has this great deal from one of his work buddy's: his daughter's college car with about 40k miles on for $1,400. An orange 1974 Chevy Vega hatchback with a 3 speed and no air. Let's just say I was underwhelmed, but so desperate for any car, I agreed to buy it. Damn thing half rusted out from underneath me and didn't make it 100K miles before the engine blew up. Worst POS car I've ever owned. Years later, I would bug him about how valuable that Dodge would be today and tell him, 'oh, I just saw an identical car go across the auction block for $100K!' He would just chuckle, but the last time I kidded him about he just looked at me and said "You would have tore it up." I had to laugh, because 1) I realized he was right and 2) now being a Father, I could see why he didn't want his daredevil 16yo in a piece of high performance automobile like that Challenger.
