Dominion Voting Systems settles defamation lawsuit with Newsmax over 2020 election claims

Yeah... so the machines do NOT reprogram themselves, but they are made to help facilitate cheating? Therefore... defamation?

Trump has been settling for chump-change. I think he needs to up his defamation game.

 

He has upped his defamation game against the Wall Street Journal and Rupert Murdoch with a $10 billion lawsuit and the chances are that Trump will drop it to avoid being deposed. Unlike ABC and CBS/Paramount Rupert and the WSJ will not be intimidated into settling a frivolous lawsuit.

That settlement along with the $787 million settlement agreed to by Fox News demonstrates which media outlets actually perpetuate "fake news". Note that neither CNN nor MSNBC have agreed to settle defamation lawsuits for sums even remotely close to the sums agreed to by those media outlets.

Edit: There were also these other defamation lawsuits settled by right-wing media outlets over the false narrative that voting machine companies were complicit in widespread fraud in the 2020 election.

Lots of people believe it was stolen, no matter how much documentary evidence (including from Trump’s internal White House memos) establishes the claims were just made up. Heck, Putin—completely understanding how Trump works—placated him in Alaska by telling him the mail-in votes cost him the election in 2020, leading Trump to go off a Twitter-tantrum screaming about the the “rigged election.”

but do you think the machines could be hacked? Not were they, but is it possible then and now?

 

Speaking only for myself, while it's possible that the machines could be hacked, if the networks (Newsmax, Fox News and OAN) had substantive evidence that the machines were hacked they would not have entered into settlements with the voting machine companies. They did so because they were caught misrepresenting baseless allegations as actual facts.

 

It's possible for the machines to be hacked, but the machines aren't connected to any outside network while voting is happening. That means, each specific machine would have to be hacked for there to be significant fraud. This 2022 review done by CISA shows where the government found potential vulnerabilities in Dominion voting systems. The biggest issues were protecting the information and potential forgery fraud. Nothing widespread, and nothing that Newsmax could or did use as defense for the lawsuit.

 

And repeating those lies over and over and over and over, ultimately enabling January 6, and fostering dangerous distrust in our democratic institutions.
