Some of them, yes. But the base may be crumbling around the edges. When's the last time he held a big rally? His birthday parade was awkwardly tepid. His poll numbers are historically low. I think enough time has passed now that some people are noticing that his bombastic promises are consistently being unmet. This latest Alaskan Abomination won't help his image, either.

Passive attitudes toward thugs is what caused the last world war. I understand the reluctance of wanting to get involved, but its too late.

If I were in charge, I would have bombed Russias army in 2022 when they were lined up in a row on their way to Kyiv. Russia broke the agreements and invaded another country. We are involved, period. We asked Ukraine to disarm in the 90s. From a moral standpoint, that blood is on our hands and we have to fix it. Putin is an asshole and should be killed, but no one has the balls to do it, so we risk another world war because of it.

A love letter would not call Putin to task for mass kidnapping of Ukrainian children. Did you not recognize the scolding tone of the letter?

This is nothing like the WW2 situation with Germany.

The immediate stakes might be smaller, but Trump/Putin is totally analogous to Chamberlain/Hitler.

I would argue that the stakes are higher, based on what each knew at the time. Chamberlain negotiated with Hitler in 1938, well before Germany invaded Poland. Trump negotiated with Putin multiple times over three years after he invaded Ukraine. Hitler did not have nuclear weapons, and he did not have a fully formed and capable army in 1938. Germany was forbidden by treaty to manufacture tanks again after WWI, and did so in the guise of making armored police vehicles for crowd control.

But I do agree that the comparison between the two situations is valid.

It's exactly the same, economic warfare and geostrategic dominance. The only reason they haven't gone further is nuclear weapons and NATO.

There are likely kindergartners who can point out the vast differences between the Putin regime and the Third Reich. All empires want to expand their sphere of influence. It’s one of the ways they maintain their status. Beyond this, which is true of every world empire, the similarities end.

What a disingenuous reply. You posted : "So if Trump respects him but you don’t, does he or does he not get a red carpet?".

Time documents how the last six Trump-Putin meetings failed. (This one was written before the Friday meeting failed, but seemed to do a good job of lowering expectations to a reasonable level for Trump and his master.)

Read post #186 and 187. Your reply to my post was "How I feel is irrelevant" so said that was a disingenuous reply to me as you had asked a poster in the previous post :" So if Trump respects him but you don’t, does he or does he not get a red carpet?" Asking how he felt. Had that poster responded with--- "how I feel is irrelevant" you'd likely feel he was not being candid.

There is no difference other than tactics and methods. Russia has killed over a million people, including a lot of their own. Sounds like Nazi Germany or Empirical Japan to me.

It's only a corner if the West is mentally weak. You start directly threatening military action in Russia from NATO if they don't stop, starting with the baltics and eastern front near Alaska.

For two leaders to get together like this and nothing of substantive IMO shows 1) the Trump state department negotiators got very little traction on the front end and 2) there is no end in sight.

Trump resorted to puffery to try and appeal to Putin and it didn’t work. It’s up to the EU to get it done.

It actually starts with the baiting post by our future ICE employee at post #145. I answered the question in post #158. Post #181 then provides a generic answer but doesnt really answer the question which is where my post #186 comes in. Post #191 is the real answer to the question
