I know that streaming options have been discussed quite a bit in other threads, so if this needs to be merged, I understand. I've been on Youtube TV for the past three seasons and then drop the service after the hoops tourney. Now that YTtv is becoming more expensive, I wonder if anybody know of other streaming options. My needs include:
    • Good/decent DVR option. Doesn't need to be unlimited
    • ESPNU, SECn & NFLn - otherwise I don't care about entertainment TV options
    • Would like to have locals, but not a deal breaker
    • Not interested in cable or satellite - streaming would be best
    • Reasonable cost; wife wants to save $
I have the Amazon firestick. Any service provider suggestions? Thanks! :)

I'm going to try Hulu+live tv this year, it's expensive too but it does fold ESPN+ into the price so that's a plus.

I've been using Directtvstream or some version of it almost since it came out. I'm happy with the service, but it's grown to be about as expensive as my cable was before I switched. I've researched a bunch of other options and didn't come up with anything I liked better, so decided to stick with it.

My dad tried fubo and liked it until their price went up. He switched to directtvstream and likes it as much as I do.

Has a user friendly guide, and cloud dvr.

I haven't done a spreadsheet or anything, but sling orange plus the sports extra package would be just under $60/mo and has the few channels you specified plus 50 hours of cloud dvr. I would think that would be hard to beat as sling seemed to be one of the most economical options when I was researching, it just didn't have everything I wanted.

Thanks! I will look into these options. I'm thinking that having a rotation from year to year might be the way to go, so we can take advantage of new customer promos.

I like Hulu Live the price has increased to near $80 a month but they have every channel you need especially sports wise and you get there digital library plus ESPN and Disney +.

I just cancelled Hulu Live because outside of sports, I wasn't really watching any live TV and I found this online site that shows about every game for free:
TheTVApp.to | Watch Live Sports, Shows, News

I now have the standard Hulu account for binging shows and I have all the other stuff, Netflix, Paramount, Disney, etc

I don't even worry about the DVR option because every game goes to YouTube with the commercials edited almost immediately after the final whistle these days.

Hulu Live has gone to almost $100 from less than half of that just a few years back, so cord cutting is no longer cheaper than Dish/DirecTV used to be. When you add in all the other services, Prime, Netflix etc, we were pushing $200 a month which was insane

If I do go back to a live TV option, It will be YouTube. I HATE Hulu's clunky interface for live TV. YouTube is a much cleaner navigation.

Davis, if I may recommend another thing.
Not sure how old your fire stick is, but they are sometimes the worst ones you can buy. Amazon fills them with bloat and ads and they actually get slow and glitchy fast.

We recently bought some ONN streaming sticks for $20 at Walmart. They use Googles platform and are so much faster and have no glitches.

So not sure if you experience the slow, glitchy nav that Amazon has in their devices, but highly recommend ONN if you need to switch.

I’m still on YouTube tv, Davis. The product is great, but I agree about the price getting very high. We used to do sling, which had a great price, but its lack of DVR was fatal to a Gator sports person with kids. Anyway, it looks like sling has a DVR now and might still be a bit better in price. I’d check that out.

No thanks. Not giving Disney a penny. Guess it's YT TV again although on my older Samsung 55" the Smart software is getting so old that content stutters making live content impossible to enjoy. Fine on all my other smart TVs but I know eventually they too will start crapping out. 5 years is the life span of a smart TV.

I've got smart TV's that are going on 12 years. My 85" one is about 5 or 6 and has no issues.

I would try updating your firmware on the TV. If that doesn't fix the issue, just attach a streaming device to your old TV and just use it as a monitor. There's no reason to scrap a TV with a good picture just because it is beginning to have connection issues.

I had bad luck with the firestick as well. We use roku ultras at the house and have a 4k stick in the travel bag.

You don’t pay for any service that includes espn or any other Disney products? I bet they’re getting quite a bit more than a penny from you.

Like crusher said, you don’t need to replace the tv because of streaming issues, just add an external device. I prefer box devices to sticks.

Good advice. We have a 17 yr old “dumb” Samsung TV with a Roku, and it streams sports like a champ.

I have streaming sticks even on my smart TVs.
I just like that I can use the Google ecosystem through the TV with the ONN sticks. That will fix your issue for about $20 bucks.

Tvapp looks crazy. What's the catch?

Planet Gator on YT has great replay edits with Sean and Shane. I think everything except espn/sec+ games.

Clicking on that TV app site I don’t see that anything is free. Their subscriptions, however, are not very expensive. Do or did you have a subscription? if so, which one? Were your kids in different locations able to also use the app by logging in with your credentials?

My DIRECTV charge is $177 per month. I was looking to change to Hulu TV because my daughter and her husband got it and are happy and it’s cheaper, even with the recent price increase. They’ve always been able to get Gator games for me when we’re over to babysit.

I've used it for years with no major catch.
My guess is using a VPN is a good idea because they are likely selling your habits for ad data, but so do legit sites.

It can have some poor quality at times.

But it's worked fine for me.

I have NHL (ESPN +) and MLB packages for Rays and Lightning games. So football will be the test. If it ends up sucking them I will pay for YouTube for a few months.

No sub for me. I just click the channel. It opens a play box. And click play.

Test it by scrolling down using the MLB games.

So it does! I guess to record you would need to have a subscription.

Perhaps, but I don't even get recording anymore. All shows stream on demand and you can get that through services like Paramount (for CBS) etc and live games all hit YouTube within a breath of concluding.
