That's the thing. A rise in crime (even though it is way down from 2023) doesn't warrant a military takeover. People (like Chris Matthews apparently) act like if you're opposed to the military takeover of our cities, you're opposed to reducing crime. The 2 things have nothing to do with each other.

Murder rates and overall crime rates are highly correlated. You disagree with that? In DC you figure the murder rate has decreased by +40% since 2023 but all other crimes are way up?

As for Joe Scarborough, his anecdotes are no more convincing to me than yours are. The numbers show a large drop in crime since 2023. I will say it is possible that more of the wrong type (affluent whites) of people are being victimized, but I have no way of knowing that nor do you as far as I know. Present some data. Convince me with something other than anecdotes.

I do not think we are going to agree on this. You refuse to admit that MPD has a history of cooking the books. If you cannot admit that, it is hard to see how we can have a serious discussion about their data.

No we're not going to agree on this. Murders are down 40% from 2023 but you're telling me all other crime is way up despite the data showing big reductions in all other violent crime as well. I don't believe you. That would have to a lot of book-cooking.

I'll make you a deal, I'll pick up the bill for you and your significant other at Le Diplomate (minus drinks since they have quite the wine list) but your reservation has to be at or after 9 pm and you have to park at the Navy Yard, take the metro to McPherson, and then walk to the restaurant and repeat that in the reverse on the way home.

Audit the books. Take snapshots of time or geographical area and read the reports. Then judge the classifications as read vs as being reported. Probably dispatch data that could be used as an indicator. Or just whistlers who are pissed at the data being massaged.

Then we can judge coocoo crazy or serious cooking of the books.

Smoothing the data vs military occupation vs those pesky libbies being triggered by that smelly panhandler.

It was not some isolated incident. People are scared to walk many DC streets at night because the democrats think it's alright to let these gangs run wild.

This guy was an attorney in the DOJ and people wonder how we get all this lawfare against Trump with weaponized leftist Judges. Even their so called professionals can't control themselves. Keying Teslas (usually fellow leftist cars lol) because Musk worked with Trump and now not being able to control themselves despite being an attorney with the DOJ and throwing sandwiches at law enforcement. When anyone asks how that Russian collusion hoax could happen just look at these incidents with leftist federal officials.

"People are scared?" "Gangs running wild?" You are just inventing this out of whole cloth. You are inventing things that aren't real to get scared about, classic conservativism.

Is there a large city anywhere in the country where you think you'd be at ease walking every street at any hour?

Why would I park miles away and take the subway when I could just uber directly there? You take common sense precautions in any big city. If you want to debate that walking around large swaths of DC late at night is risky you'd get no argument from me. But per the crime stats it's less risky than it was in 2023 and way less risky than it was in the early 90s.

Does the current crime situation warrant sending in national guard troops? Because that's what this thread is actually about.

A good start would to at least have the big city where people didn't have to constantly fear being mugged or carjacked for being in a commercial district at night.

It seems there is a crisis in masculinity, grown ass men afraid to live in cities or even be downtown at 9pm in a period of low crime nationwide. You'd think it was NYC in 1978 or LA in 1990 the way people talk.

Because if you actually work and lived in the Navy Yard as a young professional, that is what you would have been able to do when Fenty was running the city. Now you can’t.

And it is not just about the NG. It is about bringing the Chain of Command under the POTUS and away from the Mayor and the DC City Council. Does the current situation warrant that? Yes. Especially when you see who is on the city council.

BTW, no one gives a crap what it was like in the early '90's. Most of the work force today were somewhere between high school or not born yet during that time. We are closer to 2050 than we are to 1999. For 20 somethings, the 1990's is like the 1960's for Gen X'ers.

I would not want to walk around Anacostia but I should be able to walk around Logan Circle at night. I did that a lot when I had friends that lived in the area.

The other thing that has not been brought here but is a major issue, is that DC is essentially a no carry district. Even if you apply and jump through the hoops to get a CC Permit, there are very few places you can actually carry. The criminals know that and it makes them bolder since they know their victims are not armed.
