Any police officer that transfers to ICE is a fool unless they just don’t like their particular agency.

You can be gone the next week without reason. Why would you give up that protection? Most officers in Florida are members of the PBA and work under and with negotiated benefits.

Trump isn’t going to be the president forever.

When it comes to the number of border guards, not really a partisan issue. Partisan issues are about what the guards "do".

The number didn't go up during Trump's first term, but Clinton more than doubled them.

Agree. I wonder if most of the LEOs applying are, as you say, unhappy with their current situations. Wonder how many are from localities where "defund the police" movements are active.

Which communities in Florida have such movements?

In the run-up to the election a plethora of polls showed Americans overwhelmingly alarmed by illegal immigration.

Question: did any of the polls distinguish between people entering the U.S. illegally and people who committed crimes after entering the U.S. illegally ?

Probably very few. Besides the $50,000 signing bonus an experienced LEO could probably start working for ICE with a six figure salary, considerably more than he or she was earning working for a state or local police department.

I haven’t found one but ….. if a poll of reasonable and rational people resulted in 54% of the respondents supporting the deportation of illegal aliens, it’s likely even more would support the deportation of an illegal that committed a crime in the US.

Yes they do. Many police departments offer signing bonuses as a recruiting tool right here in Florida. I have heard of the same being dome at fire departments in the past as well.

Apparently the highest signing bonus in Florida is $8,000 at least according to Google's AI. Alameda, California offers a signing bonus of $75,000 for new recruits; Fremont, California offers a $100,00 signing bonus for lateral transfers (experienced LEOs employed by other departments).

Wouldn't it be something if all the small town cops up and quit to become ICE agents, leaving all the small towns unprotected against all manner of crimes? That should help the Orange One's popularity with his small town base. I was wondering if Trump could possibly do anything to accelerate his drop in popularity of 3% per quarter, and I think he's on to something here. He should drop 5% per quarter, easy. He could be the most hated man in America by mid-terms.

I wonder if Ice Cube has applied for a job here. He's a natural fit. I think he may even have some law enforcement experience.

And what about the guy who sang "Ice, Ice, Baby"--he's not doing anything useful these days. I don't know if he should have a gun, however (maybe they can Barney Fife him and give him a gun, but no bullets).
