Florida has begun auditing cities and some municipalities.

One of the cities they started in was Gainesville. Once Gainesville received the notice, the City Manager resigned rather than go through the audit.

I called my buddy in Gainesville and he told me they’ve found some illegal reporting but didn’t say what it pertained to.

This is just Trumppublicans pushing the boundaries of criminality and/or weaponization of government, to attack political opponents.

It's absurd to think, even for a second, that Meatball Ron or his Trumpy minions would do anything even remotely like this in good faith. Ron Desanctimonious should start by auditing and investigating his own wife.

As usual in this era of Trumpy/Republican criminality and vileness, the only surprise is how many people will watch crap like this happen without saying a word.

(They're probably planning on lying about it in 20 years. Just like they do on the Iraq war now.)

I'm no fan of Trump or DOGE, but a lot of Florida's municipalities and counties are corrupt as hell.

Oh definitely but I think it's funny that they want to audit municipalities but not audit Desantis' wife and the missing 10 million dollars

The City of Gainesville is audited by Purvis Gray, a CPA firm based in Gainesville.

Yes by independent firms. Descendants keeps nominating people that end of wasting millions of dollars. Alligator Alcatraz was a no bid project and costs the same amount as prisons with permanent facilities. His administration is in no place to be auditing others

They are, had a friend who was a partner at Purvis for a long time. Purvis and James Moore are two pretty good small regional firms.

I agree on Alligator Alcatraz. Total BS move.

I think the state audit is looking at how tax dollars are spent on social programs, DEI, money going to city employees who travel (expenses), etc. Any excesses that were not needed. It’s obvious it’s directed at “blue” cities, municipalities, and counties. Using Gainesville as an example I’d like to compare the audits from Purvis Gray and Fla. DOGE.

Selective enforcement is illegal. If the state doesn’t audit everyone it’s a violation. But who’s going to challenge it.

I brought this up because I thought it would be interesting to follow.

His relationship with Carlos Duart needs to be addressed. No bid contracts for covid sites (CDR health), alligator Alcatraz and an appointment to FIU board chair. I have first hand experience with how shady some of the practices were regarding covid cites.

Perhaps a bit off-topic, but the sheer amount of corruption that exists at many state levels, combined with the amount at the federal level makes me think that we are not as “free” as a nation as we are led to believe. And “rule of law”.. lol.

Desantis was mad that the legislature didn't take up a bill this year to eliminate property taxes. We already know what the results and takeaway will be. He is going to double down on removing property taxes

Me too and a good friend of mine is a county commissioner. No idea what they are looking for…except trying to get rid of property taxes but no replacement taxes on deck.

Does it really matter? The outcome was predetermined

The City of Pensacola is next up.

It's a red area, but you Hillsborough people can't possibly have as many skeletons. Municipal corruption and waste isn't a crime here, it's an art form.

You people wondering if this is partisan, you're going to have your answer soon. If PCola gets a pass, FL DOGE is either partisan or worthless.

The CPA firm is probably auditing the accuracy of financials and potentially internal controls. This new agency is probably going in to cherry pick and find things that they can exaggerate and take out of context to score political points

I think the state is looking for what they consider waste. Waste that others consider necessary.

They have to audit everyone or it’s selective enforcement.
